Description
Remember that drawing of Big Boy ? This was the full image. Yes, I drew all of that... just for a dumb dimensional merge joke. I was on a Chris Chan binge when I drew it, which was... Before recent events, to say the least. I always thought the idea of the merge was so fucking fascinating, ignoring the batshit insanity of Chris believing it to be real. Think about it, every fictional character and OC, together, in one massive universe. Imagine the chaos! Especially factoring that not all fictional characters and OCs are good guys. Heck, three of my main character concepts (Shadogaire , The True Destroyer , The Tunnel ) are world ending eldritch horrors that could destroy everything without a second thought. Now imagine hundreds of thousands more of those kinds of beings all together in one place. And the person in charge of keeping the peace is Chris motherfucking Chan. A manchild who thinks everything can be solved with My Little Pony logic. It really could be an awesome survival horror scenario, I wish that there were more works exploring that side of the Merge.Ok, getting back on topic, this is a much more organized idea dump I did a while ago, focusing on four main ideas: Big Boy and the merge, Hominopteranus improbabilis wing redesigns, "cloud dragons", and extended flaps on bird/maniraptor wings. I guess like with the BB drawing and H. improbabilis wings I could have just split the other two ideas into their own separate images (and I still might), but it also looks pretty cool altogether so I decided to keep it as one image.
Big Boi
This started out as a dumb joke about the Merge (Big boy likes to merge other things' body parts to itself) but ended up being a genuine attempt to try and draw him. Big Boi is a massive eldritch abomination from the Accounts of a Lonely Broadcast Station and We're Always on the Air at 104.6 series on Nosleep. He's a horrifying amalgamation of deer and literally everything else he can get his hands on, absorbing them into himself. The whole forest is full of amalgamations, but Big Boy seems to be the biggest, perhaps even the leader or ruler. I am a huge fan of the series, and was surprised how many elements it and the Creatures of ROT had when I first gave it a listen. I can't recommend it enough, if you're a fan of horror it's a great read. There was also going to be a web comic, but sadly it looks like there hasn't been an update in three years. Shame, I really really wanted to see what the author's interpretation of BB looked like. Here's some of the description of them from the stories:
From part AoaLBCS 9 :
"In the blinding fog, I could see brown and grey fur, spotted with blood. It smelled like rotten flesh and mold, its joints cracking and groaning as it bent down to my level. I could see its eyes in the periphery of my vision - at least six of them, pale, stained with flecks of jaundiced yellow, sitting above an elk-like snout. Its antlers scraped the side of the wood with a terrible, jaw-clenching sound. I felt a touch to my back, and recognized it immediately. The spider-like appendages that had brushed my arms on the last fog day weren’t the legs of some giant spider, but this thing’s fingers. It breathed in, then out with a rattle, and the stench of blood and death was warm against the side of my face."
From "We're Always on the Air" part 5
"In a split second, a shadow bigger than anything I could have expected fell down from the trees, taking branches with it and snapping a thin birch in half as it landed. The amalgamate had changed. It always did. A flurry of arms and claws, some of them at its sides and others reaching out from its stomach, grasped together to wrap around the smaller beast. The giant stood, four of its hooves still on the ground but two of them in the air. Where its ribs would have once been underneath the fur, the bones had now sharpened into a gaping mouth, one that rippled and dripped in a blood-filled cavity. Antlers cracked against the tree limbs as it rose to its full height, lifting the root-faced man and holding his body immobile.
"God, the way it screamed. A dry wheeze escaped his opened chest, but I swear that somewhere muffled in that twisted body of plant and human, I could hear small, pathetic, fearful whimpers…
"Like a twig snapped in half, the giant tore his prey in two pieces, cracking the bone and bark with ease. It threw the bottom half aside, leaving the forest floor to reclaim it, while I watched in disgust as the cavity in its chest opened to welcome the rest. It ate him alive, swallowing his body piece by piece until the arms, hands, roots, and that one singular eye were all absorbed, only to find new homes.
"Two of the small arms broke through the skin near the beast’s shoulders. Another clawed its way out of its chest. I became aware in that moment of just how many pieces had been taken: bones, hooves, claws, teeth. I could see so many human parts just in one glance, but I wasn’t going to count them. I didn’t want to.
"The creature blinked, six eyes glimmering through the dark all at once, until a seventh opened blearily on its forehead for the first time."
The thing in the top left corner is my interpretation of the inside of the mouth, teeth made up of stolen bear and wolf skulls that fit together when the mouth is closed. The picture under it is an interpretation of its hand, with long, giant spider-like fingers. Big Boy himself, of course, is a massive creature made up of so much absorbed flesh and body parts that you can only get an idea of what they look like from a distance. Every kill only makes them larger and stronger, a thirst to grow and consume that is never quenched.
Now imagine him loose in the merge.
Seriously though, go read the series if you haven't already, or listen to the series narrated by Mr Creepypasta here . Please, I need someone else I can talk about this story with
Also the deer next to him is from Tales from the Gas Station , another banger series
Hominopteranus improbabilis wings
Some updated wing anatomy for the now renamed Hominopteranus improbabilis, showing off new wings slots made up of bundled actinofibers that resemble feathers.
The "feathers" are actually grooves that are supported internally by bundled, thickened actinofibers. They're fairly flat, and can overlap or spread out to better control the speed and maneuverability of their flight. Only a couple of pterosimian groups have developed this, namely the pteroraptors and the pterohomanids. Splitting of the trailing edge of the wing allows for slower, more controlled flight, and is one reason why bird wings are able to take on a wide variety of shapes while bat and pterosaur wings were a bit more restricted. The downside to this is that the actinofibers are a bit stiffer than in their relatives, meaning they are heavier and make the patagium harder to "fine tune" while in the air. They are still living structures, so they have nerves, vessels, and muscle within them, but they are still more limited than if they were unslotted.
Cloud dragons
This is fairly simple. I see dragons in clouds. Like, all clouds look like some kind of dragon to me. Like this cloud I spotted in 2020 . So a drew a few of the best ones. Clouds make the best dragons.
Wing Flaps
There's a reason that feathered wings don't have this flap. While It would theoretically give more surface area to that part of the wing, it would greatly interfere with the mobility of the arm. Plus, feathers already fill that gap. But it's still a fun idea to explore
