Description
‘In the heart of Transylvania,In the Vampire Hall of Fame - yeah!
There's not a vampire zanier than… Duckula!’
I wonder how many people will remember this guy.
I was recently reminded of this show when someone posted a list of old 80’s cartoons in their online journal. The titles on the list brought back many memories long forgotten and I could just hit myself for forgetting about Count Duckula. I loved that show so much that I remember insisting to my parents that I wanted a Count Duckula plush. They hunted high and low and finally found one. A couple of years later, I ended up donating him to the school fate, not knowing how rare he would become. I had kept him in excellent condition too (darn, why was I so naïve at that age?!) Anyway, The story has a happy ending however. I was browsing eBay a couple of days ago and came across him again, in mint condition. So, naturally, I had to have him and in doing so, would like to think that I have claimed a part of my childhood back at the same time!
So here’s one of my childhood memories; possibly one of the best designed (and voiced) characters of all time, as well as the only vegetarian vampire you’re likely to come across!

You're absolutely right. There's nothing like the humour to be found in a good classic. In the case of Duckula, 'dark humour'.
Thank you for taking the time to post a lovely comment.

Just bought the complete series of Duckula on DVD and am being happily reminded of how this show used to make me laugh but also creeped me out at the same time when I was a kid. Great pic!

You'll be surprised how many people remeber Count Duckula!
This show was one of my big favorites back in my childhood too. Needless to say, the good Count has many fans here in Latin America
I recently got my hands on the dvds. And even now I find the show so darn funny I just sit and laugh myself silly, just like when I was a kid. What I didn't know was that there were Duckula plushies and a lot of other merchadising until I googled him. I'm jealous now XD
Btw, awesome drawing!

OMG! They really got a lot of amazing stuff at that site, but I almost die from a heart attack when converted the prices to mexican pesos XD
Now I have a new obsession: to get me a Duckula T-shirt... someday. When I get the money. And persuade my dad of lending me his credit card. Oh boy
...Shame on you XD

Yes! My husband and I have the first season of this show on DVD. Need to look and see if they've come out with the later seasons yet or not.
And may I say what a marvelous rendering you have done of him here?

Thank you very much for the kind comment! Yes, I think there should be more love for the kooky little vampire. It's funny how most 70's/80's cartoons have become retro now, and yet Duckula still remains in the shadows a little. Too scary for kids perhaps? Ha ha.

I remember that show for a long time ago, one of the best cartoon programs I have ever seen. My favourite character was Igor he always tried to convert the count in a real vampire.

I just hope to god that they don’t remake that show. Count Duckula is a classic and doesn’t need to be revitalised. It would be like what happen to the War of the Worlds. It looks like Hollywood is run out of ideas.

I must say that Peter Jackson did a better job then the animated version of The Lord of the rings. He kept to the book more.

I cannot remember the name of the nine dark horsemen but their costumes are the best ever. Wish I had a costume like that for Halloween to scary little kids. I hope you don’t mind me watching you. I love your artwork.

I think they were called Ring Wraiths, the cursed kings of men who were overcome by the power of the rings they were given. Yes, their costumes were great, especially the armour! The gauntlets they wore were really well designed.
Btw, Thank you for the watch! That's very kind of you and no, I don't mind at all. I shall have to add some of your artworks to my faves! (I will take a good look later, as I've only briefly looked).
