Description
Black and white version of The Lycan pin-up from my upcoming Raw Studios series written by Mike Carey. All inked with my trusty Pentel Brushpen. See my gallery for the colour version, finished by Grant Goleash. The publisher, Tom Jane (Raw Studios) want the book in the Clemente Coll/Wrightson/Booth tradition. There's a little Karl the Viking era Don Lawrence here too, but otherwise it's all me.Related content

Absolutely stunning piece. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the book -- is there an release date set? All of the Raw Studios work has been top-notch so far and this will be a fine addition to their library of titles.

There's no getting away from it - this is pure Wrightson.

This reminds me somewhat of Frazetta's pen and ink work. Top class.

Just thought I'd stress that I'm not implying that you're trying to emulate Frazetta's work, more that the line work is of a similar quality.

Hiw exactly do you start on something like this? Do you sketch out where everything is going to go first? That's what I do. I ain't half bad with a pencil and paper, and I'm teaching myself digital painting and 3D modeling. I'm really trying to get into the game art business.
Lots if things I start I only hakf finish, because I lose interest too quickly due to so many ideas coming out at once. Any tips on how to finish artwork faster?

Yup. Pencils first. When you first start out you need to get it completely right at the pencil stage before you start to ink, and then you have another skill set to master when it comes to inks. It's all time, patience, research and practice!

Yes, I need to work on the research part. I usually forget that I need reference and get frustrated because I can't do it on my own. I need to break that habit.

Your B/W work is simply fantastic!
And I agree with Leancosta: The colors spoil a lot the art.
