Description
Black and white version of The Lycan pin-up from my upcoming Raw Studios series written by Mike Carey. All inked with my trusty Pentel Brushpen. See my gallery for the colour version, finished by Grant Goleash. The publisher, Tom Jane (Raw Studios) want the book in the Clemente Coll/Wrightson/Booth tradition. There's a little Karl the Viking era Don Lawrence here too, but otherwise it's all me.Related content

Thank you! It's an amazing brush that you that you load with cartidges, so you don't dip. You can also be very bold and very fine. My fav. Tool. Ever.

I must admit that I am partial to the uncolored version.

No shit? I didn't know you used a pentel. Is it a colorbrush or a the pocketbrush? I use both, but clearly to less effect. You're an inking monster Liam. I love that guy's face. It's got kind of Gary Gianni vibe going on.

Coll, Wrightson and Gianni! Awesome! The Pentel Brushpen I use takes black pigment ink cartridges. It's very flexible, so you get super-fine and big, bold blotches. Brilliant tool.

I was recently watching some con sketch videos and noticed Fred Williams II using a pentel pocketbrush, but instead of relying on the cartridge inside the pen, he just dipped it in an ink well like a normal brush. One of those "that never crossed my mind" moments.

Nice. My natural impatience and short attention span prevent me from ever attempting anything like this. Great work, Liam!

I can't believe you said that Joe! Your paintings are way more resolved than any of mine! Short-attention-spans-R-Us! It's my BIGGEST problem with strip work - keeping the level of quality/detail up! I like my 'real' life too much!

It's why I DO so little strip work. I'm bored drawing the same stuff over and over by page three. It's just torturous for me.

People have no idea! I don't understand how people like Brian Hitch can do it! It never gets easier, and every day is groundhog day... LOL!

Beatifully executed, it's a tricky style to get right, but this looks great. Just recently bought a Brushpen that I haven't quite got the hang of yet, more practice required I think. Mind me asking what paper or board you did this on?

Testament hooked me on your art. I discovered it about a year ago and raced through it. As someone a photographer/amateur painter and even more amateur comic book artist, I am amazed at this piece. Your ability to create a details from cross hatching is superb. I haven't seen anything like this in a LONG time. Actually reminds me of some Rembrandt engravings. One fo the problems I feel like I consistently have when doing any work with a Pentel Brushpen is my inability to create precise lines consistently. This is usually due to me working in small areas. How large is this original?

Thank you so much! This was a BIG piece - double up from a comic page. But the Brushpen can be REALLY precise when you get the hang of it - and that literally is patience and practice. It's easily my favourite tool because of it's versatility...
