Here's the full Mars Ape commissioned oil painting, still wet on the easel in my studio. Really enjoyed returning to oils after almost a decade, and though it's bound to draw Bisley and Frazetta comparisons I must admit I'd love to do more like this.

oh, I noticed that, series of over 10 books, 1st of witch launched in 1912-wow that's pretty long ago, it may turn out to be rly naive and stupid for our generation, you know-ppl used to imagine funny and entertaining things for the stuff they couldnt quite explain, but I guess with all that AMAZING art based on the novels, they deserve a try

Gorgeous work Liam! That colour combo will always grab my attention, and I love the composition, very finely balanced despite being simple. Favourite part is the fade4 out on her hands into the background colour.. so hard to do stuff like that and not have her look like she's disintegrating! Lovely overall piece!

Sigh. I know I know - but I was in 2000ad before Simon, and got labelled a Biz clone for a long while, which sucks. All artists want to be seen in their own right and on their own terms, and when you see those comparisons ENDLESSLY it gets reductive, and eventually has a really negative effect.
So yes, maybe I'm a bit touchy on the subject! I'm getting over myself slowly! LOL!

Thanks man. A decade (or more!) on it seemed like it might be a good thing to off-load. I thought if Frazetta thinks I'm no good then what chance do I have? But, y 'know, I'm still here, plugging away!

You know, if you're going to be compared to someone, those two are good ones. Honestly, I think it's brilliant! The color palette and figure placements are really good.

The trick is not to study Frazetta, but Howard Pyle, N.C.Wyeth, Maxfield Parish and Michelangelo...

Just looked those guys up. Beautiful work! I already knew Michelangelo of course. And with Frazetta I can't even comprehend the stuff he does. I can look at it super high res up close and still not understand it. I'll definitely check these guys out more too. genius stuff
