Description

Ed Sheeran - I See Fire (Zyrah cover)

And if we should die tonight,
Then we should all die together,
Raise a glass of wine for the last time,
Calling out, Father, oh,
Prepare as we will,
Watch the flames burn auburn
On the mountain side,
Desolation comes upon the sky...

A Vannan Guard watches over the hill and the castle of Fhan Tai, the former capitol of the nation of Xorem.
Many foreigners believe that the dragon grasping the castle Fhan Tai was sculpted by men. Most of Xorem's commoners believe it as well. But in reality, the dragon was once flesh and bone, the one remainder of a long-forgotten race of dragons that migrated away from Xorem during the Chasm of the First Ashtar War.

No one knows exactly by what magic the dragon was petrified, but the form and details on its countenace prove that it was made by no mere man's hand. It was said that the dragon awoke from its slumber, thought that its race had been annihilated by the men of Fhan Tai, and assaulted their castle.

The valley that cuts through the hill Gothala where the castle stands was allegedly made by dragonfire. The castle was once larger and more lavish, but fell into the gorge and was washed away by the river. The bridge was built afterwards to connect the one remaining section of the castles rear to its front. Now, water is pumped from the river up to both castles from that castle rear, as before, the river ran underground and was pumped into the castle itself.

The King of Fhan Tai (Not an orthodox king by Ashtar's standards, as a new king is elected by the citizens from the list of noblemen every seven years) still lives within the castle, though the nation's royal council does not stay there, and the king has to travel to Avalon for royal council meetings.

I've been working on this for like, weeks, even since before my vacation, and had been working on it every time I felt depressed or angry. This entire thing's final SAI file is over 100 MB. I've also lowkey begun to hate the shit out of it, because for all the effort I put into this one thing, this is the best I can do. I wanted to put more textures and shading on the castle walls and the wood and stuff but I just couldn't find one that works. I know I can do better, but I am so tired that I just want to stab my hands rather than redo it again and again.

I didn't know what I was doing with that sky background. I fucked around with my paintbrush tool and blurred it a bit.

Also, my fingers hurt. I'm crying. Put me to sleep.

The song is very fitting for the picture, and I love the lore so much.

It does remind me of Middle Earth a little bit, especially the part about the dragon attacking the castle in reference to the Dwarfs. The way the surrounding lands are shaped by the legend of the dragonfire (a little Game of Thrones there...) intrigues me, and the King Authur references (like Avalon) makes me love the history prose very much.

It looks like a wondrous place, and I love the sun's shine from the right of the picture as well as the perspective. The colours look pretty good to me, and I love the simple shading effects here too!
