It was going to be practice.
I was going to make a puppet head before I tried a large scale beak.

Thanks, this could be perfect timing - I've just offered to try make my friend a full/body puppet. I'm not sure if it will be with polymer clay, but this is a good reference for the hinge needed for the jaws.

Not sure yet what to make it out of
My friend showed me some videos of other puppets that had foam/rubber faces... I'm thinking a soft fabric sculpture might work well (old man wrinkles and such) and just give it clay eyes and teeth... but we'll see. Its going to be a fun challenge learning how to make one!
I'll definitely share any results - unless its an embarrassing lump lol then I'll never be able to face my friends again

Wow, that sounds really cool! I would share all the results - embarrassing or not, you can learn a lot from other members if they see what you fucked up, they can always give you great tips and help 
I'll watch you, also to see more of your great sculpts. I like the Skag creature you made - it looks great! Try to use some oil to smooth the body from the sculpting tools next time. It works great when added with cotton swabs

Sehr schönes Tutorial! Allerdings ist es fast die größere Herausforderung, den Unterschnabel mit dem Körper zu verbinden.
Ich habe diese Technik vor einigen Jahren mal probiert. Der erste Schnabel hing immer schlaff herunter (war aber auch ziemlich groß und schwer) und der zweite ließ sich zwar öffnen, blieb aber nicht offen stehen. Beim nächsten Versuch muss unbedingt Draht in den Schnabel.

Ei, was ich vergessen hab zu sagen: Ich habe bei meinem Greif ja gar nicht den Unterschnabel mit dem Körper verbunden - Fällt mir mal gerade so ein - aber bei simpleren Schnabel- und Kopfformen ist das sicher möglich

Gosh, jetzt fällt mir erstmal auf, dass du ja Deutsch sprichst und ich brech mir hier mit Englisch einen ab.... *hust*
Ich hab übrigens überlegt, ob man hinten in den Schnabel nicht eine Kugelschreiberfeder einsetzt. Das sollte den Schnabel zumindest zu halten. Hab ich dann zwar nicht gemacht, aber man könnte es mal probieren.

Du kannst das probieren mit der Feder, oder mit nem Gummiband. Oder du kannst ein richtiges Scharnier einbauen, so wie die Jungs und Mädels von der Kostümabteilung das machen mit ihren Masken.
