Scalemates are from Homestuck, a web-comic written by Andrew Hussie and belong to him. This pattern was created by me and is for personal use only.

Looks so complicated D: how long does it take to make one? Is it hard? How big are they?

darkanddefiant In reply to TadpoleKat [2012-11-30 08:14:56 +0000 UTC]

i've made one in a little more than 13 hours. it's not too hard but it takes a lot of time and patience. they're about 8-10 inches in height, and about a foot from the tip of the tail to the end of the foot.

Thank you so much for making this!!! I just have one question, any tips for making it a backpack?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

intrinsiclySardonic In reply to MrsBenzedrine7152 [2013-03-20 00:17:35 +0000 UTC]

If you cut a slit in the back and sew an extra layer to form a pocket on the inside side of it, all that is left is adding the zipper and straps.
Keep in mind that you wont need to stuff it as much, otherwise you wont be able to fit anything inside of it.

I'm wondering if maybe you could explain the stitch you used to attach the head and legs a bit more. I really can't figure out how to do it and my scalemate has no limbs "/

AyameKitsune2 In reply to ToriJ [2012-11-16 20:28:01 +0000 UTC]

Try looking up the ladder stitch, that's pretty much what's used in the pattern here

If you have a curved needle you can sew them on after the head has been sewn on but if not you might want to sew the eyes before you attach the head

darkanddefiant In reply to AyameKitsune2 [2012-11-30 08:16:54 +0000 UTC]

i've managed to sew the eyes on after the head was stuffed and with a straight needle.o3o

Hey, I'm shinysuicune from over on pkmncollectors (I commented about your Scratch scalemate!) and I just finished one of these guys! My friend and I hope to build a little army of them soon, and I'm considering trying out your Vodka Mutini pattern as well! Thanks so much for these; you're awesome!

I can see someone who doesn't know about Homestuck stumbling across this and thinking that it's such a cute thing to make and they follow all the instructions and get to the end and suddenly wonder what in the good world the noose would be for! xD

Dyanae3669 In reply to AyamiAras [2012-09-30 00:53:38 +0000 UTC]

I can see that too. I'm going to try and make one of these for my friend's birthday, and I'm going to give her a small noose for it as well. She doesn't know about Homestuck, so I'm betting her reaction will be priceless!

This looks really good! I'm currently trying to persuade my mom to help me to sew one. Just wondering, Andrew Hussie has taken down a lot of the other tutorials, do you know why he took down those and not others (I'm not saying I want your taken down, I'm just curious)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lishlitz In reply to blindprophet413 [2012-09-20 12:11:28 +0000 UTC]

i really don't know the answer to that. i don't sell mine or do commissions and give him full credit for his creations so i hope he doesn't take them down.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kanachu In reply to XemnasISuperior [2012-09-10 01:56:08 +0000 UTC]

Well you could probably use something besides fleece if you really wanted to. But it's soft, not all that expensive, and good for Scalemates.
Buttons as well, obviously, for the eyes.

If any of you guys are doing this for a Terezi cosplay, I advise getting some white fabric, making some hair with it, and giving it a record on it's stomach, and then smacking some big sunglasses on one (it looks best in R33333D) to make an adorable DaveScalemate.

just finished mine but the head looks a bit warped on the back and the horns look a tad small and I couldn't fit the back on the rest of the head without warping it like this: [link]
Any suggestions for what I did wrong? The rest looks great though
