Description
Hmmm.... This one came about because I spent the weekend cleaning my house and also indicated my pieces were getting more fleshy. This piece was also to try cel style shading on texture maps. I think it creates an interesting effect. I was also checking to see if the new morphs for the Takumy hair I am working are usable or not. I'm still bummed about destroying the previous ones by accident.

I can identify with these problems more than you know. Back when I got over frustrated with Firefly and was looking for a new render engine, I really wanted to move to 3DSMax. Although you can get files over to it, I would spend hours reassigning texture maps..... It wasn't a workable solution.
Now for a completely different question...
What tool do you use to assign polygon groups when you create figures for poser? Or I guess another way to put it is how do you slice up your models so you can assign the different regions (i.e. lcollar, chest, neck, head, etc...)
I haven't found any way to do this yet that isn't just a dreadful experience.

I do the Poser "grouping" using 3DSMAX itself. In most cases it is best to simply delete half the model (usually the left side) and then do the grouping. Next you can simply mirror and stitch the left side and rename the parts accordingly. ^^

How do you do the grouping? If I have a solid model, I haven't found a good way to "slice" the object into pieces. I know you can select specific faces, but how do you assign them to a new object or group?

Poser actually doesn't require models to be physically split into separated parts. It may be enough if your 3D modeling tool allows the creation of named geometry groups. But in most cases, I think that splitting the model can make it easier to do the rigging in the Setup Room because split parts are easier to select directly from the model.
As for your question, in 3DSMAX you have a number of sub-object levels of selection, where for grouping I prefer going down to "face" mode. After you select the faces you want to split, you just hit the "detatch" button and voila - you have created a Poser group! Don't forget to properly name each group according to the bone names from your target Poser figure. For example, Vicky 3 and 4 have different skeletons parts. Aiko and AnimeDoll are also like that, and it's best to take note of the names before you start grouping your model.
Another very important thing is NEVER to move the model (or parts of it) while you are grouping or that will cause you a lot of trouble when you load it into Poser. Most common symptoms of that are parts that mysteriously disappear or show in the wrong place in Poser.
