This piece was commissioned in late November, I started work on it in December. Then I broke my leg.The Sign was for a Internet cafΓ© / gallery. I told the owners that I would like to still do the sign but it was going to be 3 months before I would walk again. They decided to wait until I was better.
99% of the sign is from scrap. There are 42 high Powered LEDs in the logo, using some mirrors I was able to get the light to shimmer in interesting patters across the logo.
The Light on the inside is a Volkswagen Bug headlight. The doors open up to put flyers and artist listings on the inside.
The whole unit weighs about 250lbs. I spent 150+ hours working on it.

Great work! And all done with oxy-acetylene? My friend Gabe (Fellow industrial design student from Pittsburgh) would love this sign! as for the display, I think the split display works pretty well for this one. I'm thinking horizontally might work better, but I think it works pretty well. It's not great, but I think it's better than having to go to a whole other deviation to see the detail.
The castors are a nice touch

For the longest time I didnβt have 220V in my shop or an electric welder.
I got one now and it is so nice. It is just an old Beefy arc welder, but it does the job. The piece I just submitted was the first to be done with the new welder.
Also with so many different views I went with the Split screen on my latest submission. I still would like to submit a single high quality photo of the piece by itself, but this works great for now.

Ya, that one is mine. There are a few more photos on my webpage. I signed up for the July show. I need to make repairs to one piece and start/finish another.
I used to hate deviant art. It seemed like a big popularity contest. I decided to give it another chance.

The sign is looking killer man. The color choice is a good one, plus it looks grand over all! ( I really don't know what else to say

that's damn nice. i'm green with envy. i've never welded a single thing in my entire life. looks awesome. the sign part. the bottom bit looks a little too bulky or not bulky and armour like enough. there's somethign that's not quite there yet but (design wise).. good craftsmenship.

Thanks it was a lot of fun.
One of the restrictions I had to deal with is city permits. BackSpace has to pay a yearly fee to have an βA-boardβ on the sidewalk. Thatβs why the bottom looks the way it does. I know we are pushing some limits with the sign having lights built in, I hope they donβt complain about it.

it's getting a bit better. I'm starting to get a bit of feeling towards what I do. I've done some pretty big things (some of which will be built), including the masterplaning of an entire new town. quite exciting, shit pay, long hours but wuite exciting.

HOLY CRAP! That's all I can say...this is amazing...seriously hun...amazing. This was time well spent...it just's...awesome...simply awesome. Wow...I am dumfounded.
