Dude, incredible work. This is movie-quality right here. Proof that we can do 3d that matches real life- it looks like you could walk up and touch that thing.
One thing I might add though is that larger guns like that tend to kick up a lot of dust, simply from the force of the muzzle blast. Some dust being strewn about by that vulcan gun firing would really add to the mood. Just a suggestion!

Lucid-Grey In reply to Setzuo [2012-03-23 02:21:54 +0000 UTC]
nice suggestion, I wasnt sure if a vulcan would have allot of muzzle force.. I know the 20mm on the otherside certainly would!, as for the movie thing.. I built it to a high standard because I want to make a short film with it in the future.. this is the next piece im making [link] its gunna be a real challenge.. im going to make it flawless.

Setzuo In reply to Lucid-Grey [2012-03-23 04:05:41 +0000 UTC]
yeah, even something as small as an m4 carbine, at 5.56mm, still puts out enough force to shake things up nearby.... not a lot mind you, but when fired from a machine gun like a SAW, it'll raise some dust if there's any to be found.
That looks awesome, man. The 3D work is flawless, like I said. It's work like this that's going to, hopefully, bring the mecha genre to the silver screen in America. If Transformers can do it and be so successul, imagine what could be done with something more realistic...

My head just exploded! I honestly have never seen better lighting on a 3D model in my life. It's hard for me to accept that this is a model. It looks so real!

Hi Lucid-grey, love the mech, are you interested in selling above model as an .obj fully rigged so I can import into a scene in Vue I am working on at the moment, this is exactly what the scene needs, and my Mech building skills are nowhere near as advanced as what you are capable of.
Of course full credits will be given to you when I submit finished artwork to cornucopia gallery, could even generate repeat business for you as this is good advertising.
Please get back to me on this.

you know. in my day i have seen ALOT of mechs. more mechs then you can shake a Gattling gun at. but this is by far one of my favorite "realism" mechs. its got that huge Solid Body feel to it, like its not going to get its legs shot out from under it, in general it just feels like.. how do i put it? Feels right brian... it just feels right.
(i have a folder in my favorites called "mechs" this one is in the top ten now)

thanks man, im a huge fan of "realistic" mechs, meaning they could seem to actually exist. Im not a huge fan of the "gaint" mechs.. they just seem far to unrealistic to me. well thats my 2 cents anyway.
cheers again!

trust me, im in the military, and i have often checked and rechecked the viability of Mechs. i once wrote a 5 page paper on it..... anyway long story short is that that even if physics wasnt a pain in the arse about it, you would still have to deal with the fact that wheels and direct mounts are millions cheaper then ligaments, internal stabalizers and legs.
