Description Ulala Serizawa with her persona, Callisto from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.

Part 12/12 of my SMT tribute project.

Well, it seems like it's the last of my SMT tribute pics, and also my last art of 2013.
Hence I wanted it to be special, and use one of my personal favs >3
Hehe, in general, I have a thing for tomboyish women, and Ulala is a special kind of tomboy. You see, despite her boyish physique and looks, as well as a pretty masculine attitude and boxing as a favored fighting technique, she dreams of nothing more than being a demure and graceful lady, well, that, and finding herself a boyfriend and get marries, which has led her to loose all her savings to con artists...
Anyways, hence why miss Serizawa does anything she can to boost her femininity, be it dressing in stylish dresses, having a stylish hairdo, using excessive amounts of makeup or working at a lingerie store, which sadly usually made people think she's a "drag queen", something that's a serious berzerk button for her |3
Yet on the flipside, like I mentioned, she's a boxer, and a damn good one too, SMT and Persona has had a share of powerhouses, but her maximum strength stat is actually higher than Akihiko or Chie, hell, it's even higher than Kanji XD
All in all, I guess all that is what makes her so unique and charming, there are many other Persona girls that were especially attractive for me like Fuuka or Chie, but the charmingly badass Ulala is forever my number one SMT girl ^^

Fun fact, both exclusive Personas of Ulala (Callisto and Astria) meet their miseries because their beauties have attracted Zeus in their originating mythology, a direct reference to Ulala's misfortune at the hands of dating certain men.

A shame she never made an appearance out of the P2 duology, other than her cameo in the Who's Who TV show in P3, I'm pretty sure she'd make one badass character in P4A >D (and that would be quite a redeeming factor for that game...).

Other parts of the project - Persona 1 , Persona 3 , Digital Devil Saga , Devil Survivor , Devil Children , Persona 4 , Maken X
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne , Devil Summoner , Catherine , Shin Megami Tensei , Persona 2

Ulala is sure a fun name XD
I think this is overall a very stunning piece, but my eyes are fixed mostly on Ulala as she's simple gorgeous in every detail. She looks both badass and stylish, and I think she has a cute face like that Her hair is lovely, but I think the dress deserves the most praise. I like how you drew it, especially making sure that the pattern on the dress will be easy to spot, in which you did combining the ballpoint pen with fine felt tip pen, it has a lovely effect and easy for the eye. This is some pretty cool spider web design I'm trying to fight the illusion though, the illusion of the fact that even though her arms have the correct size, they somehow appear to look small compared to the rest of her body. I don't know why I get that feeling, maybe it's because she has her arms in this position, and it might be just me so don't pay attention to that.
And I just noticed... is that a really higheel on that personas mask...? O.O (god damn it Atlus...)
The probably only one thing that I can't figure out is, what is Callisto doing with her hands like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LukeTheRipper In reply to JutaWi [2014-01-05 22:36:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes it is, and knowing Atlus it might be part of the overal character theme |3

To answer the last questions first, it's not like the higheel is "on" her mask, it's actually stabbed "into" the mask >3 something along the lines of "the fixation about femininity got into her head", or better yet, "wbiła sobie do głowy fiksację na punkcie kobiecości" >D
As for her arms, if you take a closer look, they're tied together (and with some rope dangling down from them). Well, more specifically, Callisto's whole body is tied in "bondage web" (aka "rope web", "rope dress" or "karada"), a technique which involves the tying of an intricate structure of rope around the body in a complex web-like fashion, which I'm sure is also somehow symbolic, but in either case, it's supposed to correspond with the web pattern on Ulala's dress >3

As for the arms, I dunno, maybe it's because she's standing like that in such a long and constrictive dress that it gives off such an optical illusion (plus, black is said to make one look thinner and taller and all |D).
As for the rest, many thanks, I worked extra hard on her face, as I didn't want her to look too creepy and all, I really wanted to make her look as charming as I see her ^^ kind of a shame her dress covers her legs, I would love to draw these, hehe XD well, I also worked axtra hard on her figure, as I prefer to draw females nice and curvy, and her figure isn't exactly like that |3 but I sure had fun with her hairstyle ^^

Oh, and on an extra note, I didn't use any ballpoint pen or anything fancy, everything I draw I do it with the same Stabilo brand fine-tips/fineliners >3
If one works enough with these, you just learn a trick or two to get certain fancy effects >3

Hardcore higheel stab and thanks for explaining that she is tied, that's quite a S&M persona...
As said, might be just me and my optical illuson

Not a ballpoint pen... then I know how you managed it with the fine felt alone =u=

LukeTheRipper In reply to JutaWi [2014-01-07 01:51:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, Atlus is known for some hardcore designs in their games after all |3
And I must say I do love how wonderfully twisted they are >D

Well, you might say I learned a trick or two after using them for so many years >;3

Indeed, I remember seeing few, btw my bro plays Persona: Devil Survivor, so I check it out every now and then and seeing some of the designs =w=

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LukeTheRipper In reply to JutaWi [2014-01-08 14:16:18 +0000 UTC]

Erm, to clarify... he's playing SMT: Devil Survivor or some kind of twisted hack that mixes Persona and Devil Survivor?

Persona and Devil Survivor are completely different series (though yeah, both are SMT sub-series) after all |3

And as a fun fact, as nice as the overall designs are, Atlus has a tendency to "pimp out" the main chara personas/demons/demon forms/etc. to a whole new level. That's why even though they use the same designs for certain deomns/deities/creatures in all of the series, many times they have a one-game different version which is far more twisted and detailed ^^

For example, that's how Cerberus looks as a monster in the series - static4.wikia.nocookie.net/__c… and this is how he looks as Koromaru's persona - static1.wikia.nocookie.net/__c… ^^

LukeTheRipper In reply to JutaWi [2014-01-08 14:26:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, didn't want to go all "silly Juta, there's no such thing as "Persona: Devil Survivor" XD" since there might be some kind of hack game combining the two |3

Oh, and I already did one Devil Survivor fanart if you still remember ;3

JutaWi In reply to LukeTheRipper [2014-01-08 14:30:29 +0000 UTC]

If I played it myself then I'd probably notice the difference, but I never did so yeah, mixed these.

oh!! *O*

So your favourite girl from SMT was finally revealed!! :3

I admit I got yet to finish Eternal Punishment but Ulala definitely strike me like a very interesting character. Her design is cool and her behavior is half-funny half-badass xD Knowing Atlus, she is probably hiding other sides of her personality that I got yet to see for myself :3 But I can already say, good choice! ^^ and great work as always ^^

It's funny yo see you like Fuuka also, since she differ so much from Ulala and Chie. I mean, Fuuka is strong also, in a different way but is way more feminine than the other 2 ^^ (and I loooove her xD)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LukeTheRipper In reply to asdlaker [2014-01-04 18:46:06 +0000 UTC]

Indeed she is, though some people who know me and know the series have had guessed that long ago XD

Anyways, "variety is the spice of life" as they say, so yeah, while generally tomboyish chicks like Ulala or Chie are mostly my type, I also take a liking to other girls, like the ever so timid and charming Fuuka ^^

And yes, while the first SMT games didn't go as far into the characters' personas (so to speak XD), they still have quite a share of interesting moments, hehe, Ulala's twist being one of the more shocking (yet having sense in a way...), but not gonna spoil you that, hehe, you're gonna have to find out yourself >3

Oh, there aren't many SMT games which don't have interesting characters >3
Hell, as far as I know even the terrible Majin Tensei: Ronde had some interesting parts if one could look past it's sea of flaws |D
