Description So here we go, the first ever Please Just DIE!!, the "pilot" episode
Thought I'd start these out with something pretty straightforward: zombies are slow and dumb.

Now pardon me while I go on a little rant:
Running zombies are ruining the zombie mythology.
I mean, for one thing it's totally stupid: corpses getting up and walking around is ridiculous enough, but if they were running around all the time, just, come on!
They be tripping on stuff, bashing into crap, breaking bones, losing limbs and stuff like it were going out of style!
I mean, what do you need zombies to run for anyway?
Isn't that like saying, "Oh but my vampires are immune to sunlight and they drink holy water."
Zombies are slow and stupid and what makes them scary is the fact that they're myriad (I never thought I'd get to use that word (^_^) ) but it just seems like zombie-thing writers keep trying to tack all these new powers onto zombies to make them less mockable and more "whoa man" (like metal band names).
But it's just ruining the monster by making him into an overpowered "Sue", like Cthulhu, who has waaa~~y to many powers to be interesting as a monster.
I'm all for doing new things with characters but at some point you gotta put your foot down and demand that people stick to the conventions.
Because at what point does "your zombie" or "your vampire/werewolf/ghost/whatever" stop being a... whatever it was supposed to be?

Anyway, enjoy Β

Haha, the dread that is Cthulu Sue. (I dunno if you follow the Nostalgia Chick, but she crowd-sourced a "Cthulu Twilight" romance novel to mock the whole franchise). As far as powers go, yeah it happens to the best of them. Superman was originally just pretty strong and able to leap really high; no heat vision, ice breath, etc etc.

Fun comic. I like the subtle style change here and there to add to the mock-horror.

I never heard of that before actually, but I'll definitely check it out

I wanted it to get really intense and scary then end sort of anti-climactically.
Did I get it?

You left out one really important thing.
They don't even exist. They're just figments of our imaginations, that's used to either scare others or ourselves on purpose.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
The whole idea of zombies is stupid and illogical, so it's probably never gonna happen ^^
Science will never get to the point where it can reanimate corpses, and voodoo is just plain stupid, so...

My best friend says that it's because I say stuff like that that I'll probably be one of the first people to turn in the zombie apocalypse XD

Awesome Im loving this new girl she is really cute

I guess the overuse of running zombies in movies and games is getting out of control, but I guess it depends. On the gaming side, which is probably where im most active, I like running zombies when from the the beginning of the series Im aware that I will be running from zombies all the time, an example is Left 4 Dead, that game is mainly about running from zombies to get from point A to B without getting killed.

On the other hand when a game changes later on in the series, is when I hate it.Β  Example, Resident Evil, the original games where Survival Horror, you had slow zombies and walking past them or avoiding them was a strategy, but know Resident Evil games became shooters and its just gun down as many zombies as you can... so hate that... hehe sorry long comment

You know I hear a lot of good things about Left 4 Dead.
I've got to try it out.

Running zombies or not, the way you describe it sounds really fun

I know what your talking about with old RE though.
My younger brother was (probably still is) able to get through huge portions of the original Resident Evil games without killing the enemies.
It was really amazing to see sometimes!

Just a bit about your rant (terribly sorry this isn't a real comment, other than I really like how you draw your zombies, simplistic and detailed. )

I think you're right

but I also think it depends on what people classify as a zombie. I guess the general concept is that a dead body is reanimated, and hordes are created by the sudden creation of a curse that takes any dead corpses (which would be graveyards, where dead corpses are buried,) and re-animates them with the limitations they have as dead people.

So as re-animated rotting corpses, yes you are correct.

Of course like you said they're trying to get more edgy with such a concept to make it more serious and action-appealing. In overextensive numbers, of the reanimated corpses, yes, that is a threat, but for the speed and stuff...

That concept is about an infection that starts out in one organism, and is transferred to a healthy organism, who has the physical capabilities of a healthy being, but for whatever reason gains the brain of a dead corpse. They don't really explain this very well, why it gives them killer instinct and why they don't just show signs of the infection. If anything, they die and don't come back as a zombie.

Maybe the brain is the first to react and it dies out, but then is reanimated and then has the same processing capabilities of corpses but still with the health of a regular human. Of course the vomiting and testosterone and...yeah mutating really doesn't make sense to me at all.

I mean if you look at inception there's a lot of conflicting stuff, and it could've been a really well polished action movie, but no, they stuck with the action concept enough to put it in the way of the story concepts. youtu.be/nKI432lCZaU

That's sort of the problem I have with modern zombie flicks.
They try do go in two totally different directions, usually by first implying somehow that the outbreak is scientific and reasonable but then they make their zombies damn near invulnerable.
I mean, I get the whole Tower of Babel story they wanna tell about the risks of genetic meddling or biological weapons, but at least when zombie movies had the option open to mystical origins or voodoo there was an explanation for why they could be sorta powerful.
Let's say that the running zombies were just humans with uncontrollable rage, full of hyper-charged adrenaline, and totally uninhibited in their muscular potential: that kind of state couldn't last for as long as it does in movies without killing a person and rendering them immobile.
I know it's zombies we're talking about though, and I'm wa~~~~y over-thinking it

I just never really liked running zombies... even though I have them in my story XD

A lot of the running zombies arent actual rotting corpses unfortunately, but yeah they should all get damaged and junk blindly running into stuff

Good point, it just bugs me when people try to improve classics by making them more hardcore or whatever.
Like the remake of the Omen... I hate it because they overdo everything.
That sorta parallels my feelings about running zombies
