Thank you so much for this tutorial. I downloaded oc1 recently, and I had very little idea how to use it. This is one of the most helpful tutorials I've ever encountered and definetly deserves the DD. Thank you!

Thanks, am downloading to think outside of the 'shop, and the tutorial helped immensely. Zoom OUT and draw something vague, duh.. my brains hurt from the simplicity of that. Sooo cool, ty ty.

Very nice!
I dl'ed it yesterday, it looks ok, but it might take some getting used to. I'll admit, it does seem pretty good for lineart. I use Photoshop solely at the moment, which can be a little difficult at times. But this should help in that area.
Also, I havent tried it yet, but the networking thing seems a bit vague... i'll have to try it first before i know what im doing, of course....
one question, do you have to know each other's IP adresses before two people can both oc the one pic?

Luthien-Rogue In reply to JWCFirefox [2006-02-23 01:09:31 +0000 UTC]

Hey, sorry for the late reply. If you do as the tutorial says, oC will show you your IP address. You then give it to the person you want to draw with. They go to the same networking window, click on the "client" tab, I believe, and enter your IP. That's it.

This is very good! ^^ I'm glad I came across it since I'm planning to get OC4. Can I ask you though, is buyig the program a hassle? Because I know theres a trial period and all but are there like seperate payments and crap? It would be very helpful to know!

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Luthien-Rogue In reply to AtomicMuffin9 [2006-02-23 01:07:53 +0000 UTC]

I don't use oC4. I use the original oC, which is free, so I've never bought anything from that company. I don't see why they'd ask for seperate payments though. And sorry for the late reply.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I only use the free version. I doubt they'd ask to do it in seperate payments, though.

This is a very well designed tutorial.
I 'ed it so that I can point others to it when I see a need.

(If you are still working on this, you may want to note that those using a dsl connection have difficulty hosting a net session. )

is there any easy way to resize a selection in oc? or am i stuck copying it to a new file, resizing the canvas, and then bringing it back to the original file?

*ding ding* as far as I know, you're stuck doing it the long, boring way in oC1.

ok one more question. HOW THE HELL DID YOU MAKE THE BUBBLES!!!?!?! i tryed and it didnt work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Luthien-Rogue In reply to ChronoCrusadeRosette [2005-08-19 03:30:34 +0000 UTC]

1. Practice... all the bloody time.
2. Train yourself to draw what you see, not what you THINK you see. This takes a long time to learn because our minds have an idea of how everything "should" look; but with practice, it will become easier.

I just started with the outline of the bubble--not a solid outline; rather, very uneven and broken-- and then used the watercolour tool to shade... I use the colour-dropper to pick up shades which makes blending easier. For more depth, I add shading, but on a new Multiply Layer. Highlights are then added on an Add Layer, and the transparency reduced a bit.

i dont get how the coloring is done XD with the layers and stuff XD this is the first coloring network i have used so its harder for me to understand XD (sorry if im being annoying)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Luthien-Rogue In reply to ChronoCrusadeRosette [2005-08-16 23:44:30 +0000 UTC]

You have your lineart on one layer, and then your colour on a seperate layer; thus keeping the lineart and colour from blending together.

ok ok.... I had opencanvas 3, and it was really good and everything, and so I've decided recently that I want to buy it, but now there's the fourth one. I found this site--->[link]
and it's to download the fourth one, although, I'm not sure if it's really.. .real, I guess. I was just wondering if you knew if this was like a legitemete,( ahh my spelling XD) site... or if it was fake? any news at all would help me out, I'm not very good at purchasing things over the internet.

Portalgraphics, the site you linked to, is the official site of openCanvas. The links I provided are for the original openCanvas program, which is what I currently use, and can no longer be found on the official site. I will be upgrading to oC4 soon, hopefully, as it offers more brush options, layer options etc.
