Description Out of all the illustrations in my paper, I think this one has gotten the most remarks. Which really entertains me because I whipped it out in the process of an afternoon and wasn't too pleased with it. Figures, eh? Oh, and I mean "whipped". Sketch, ink, and even the actual ritual, itself. Which I probably should have used a reference or two for, but didn't. Animals that are long-lived and monogamous usually have....hm... I think it's a less elaborate courting ritual than animals that are polygynous, and/or only mate for a season - a bit counter-intuitive for me (and my dragons are the former). I could be wrong. Like I said, I didn't use references for this part at all. With the third step, I gave my dragons the leeway to make it as long and complicated as they wanted.
The female is also allowed to initiate the courting, though if she does, she doesn't present the male with the "fishy" gift. (Har har.) Instead, she goes straight to the third step, but makes it even more ornate and complex than usual.

Just plain ol' ink on plain ol' printer paper. >^.-.^<

They do. ^_^ Well, they get as close as they can to actually dancing with that kind of morphology.

Cute.

So the third step is a bit ambiguous. So then, would the dance differ between subspecies, individuals, or just essentially remain unchanged for all? Or is it simply not something you went into detail on?

I didn't go into any detail on it- mainly because of time constraints. It would differ between any subspecies, widely spaced colonies. Individuals... Likely wouldn't have any drastic differences. At the start of each breeding season, though, it's pretty possible that couples would have a little ceremony to greet each other- likely bearing resemblence to the 3rd and 4th steps of the courtship ritual.

Haha, that's cute! Especially the little pseudo-hug at the end. The way they look in b and c is really nice, too. :]
