Have you seen the experimental movie "Kranky Klaus", from Cameron Jamie? If not, you really have to! Inspired from the krampus myth, some people in Switzerland put on some fur and horns (really beautiful outfits), and enter into people's house to terrify them. Literally. I think I would have pee on myself if someone did this to me, in reality.
I'm sure now you irresistibly want to see it haha.
Well, at least, keep on the good work! peace.

Wow! I love Christmas art like this, which focuses on the traditional rather than the commercial. Very atmospheric. Well done!
I'm working on a Nicholas/Peter painting myself this year, though my Peter looks a bit different to yours! [link]

these are all very lovely... and creepy, sort of adds another aspect to christmas... but are they in any way related to the original legend ?

Ah, a krampus! The big bad black monster that goes around leaving golden branches to bad children. I never believed in santa but I did in Krampus. Nice to see him drawn by you

ooohh, luve, I love this!!! I remember you telling me you'd do a pick of Zwarte Piet, but I thought you forgot. *waves at ZP*
The horned fellows look wonderful as well. As a child I was alway terrified of Sinterklaas and his helpers, but these guys are even worse O__O I wouldn't want them creeping around my house..

Aw man! Père fouettard! I'm surprised you even know these other sides of the St. Nicolas tradition (or anyone for that matter!)
That sure would scare me into being good as a little kid (hah) rather than some piece of coal!
Fantastic designs and coloring! It looks like something from an old storybook--i love how the colors sort of muted and dark.
What did you use?

l've never heard of Krampus before, but from what you've drawn, it's a very interesting and strange helper indeed.
l'm part Dutch, and it's nice to see Zwarte Piet, political incorrectness aside.

Lovely work, they're very dark and rather dreary, I'm it captures the grittiness of the original legends.

If you work well working small, then it's okay to stay there. That's what I say. There are benefits to working larger, but there's also a default size in you, in everyone, and it's worth paying attention to. I know my work changes in nature depending on the size of the surface.
All of which is codswollop. These are beautiful. Really, really lovely in treatment of subject and composition, and the way you've handled the paint. Only thing I'd poke at would be your values; be careful how you use color with reference to value. Strong chroma can act as counterbalance to value, but you've got to make sure you're being consistent when you play that game.
Does that make sense?

aboslutely!
yeah someone else mentioned the values here too. i'm still new to painting and NOT relying on line work establishing my boundaries...i'm fine with a monochromatic palette but once color gets thrown into the mix it gets ugly.
i'll fiddle with that today. thank you! :]

My pleasure!
Color's a tricky business! It does get easier as you go...but the learning curve is steeper than with black and white. One thing I *can* say is absolutely true: master value and you'll find color a lot easier. When I get myself in trouble I swear, eight times out of ten, it's because I didn't establish my value structure first.
(That said, there are geniuses among us who can dance around with color like a ballroom king. Poopheads.)
You're working with a wonderful but tricky medium. Watercolor works best when you've thought your approach through beforehand. That's not to say you can't play and be spontaneous. It does mean you've got to know how the paint's going to behave before you start. Now, babbling all that: I love your color-plus-linework art just as is. Were you tasked with painting without line, or is that something you want to explore?

GAH! It's Krampus!
Why did he get cut out of the legend, he was the best part!
