Also, in older versions of this effect, you don't need to/shouldn't change the name of textures folder.
I believe you can fix other effects as well with this method ^^ .

Be sure NOT to change the textures folder name. As for lagging, well it's a "massive" effect, and despite having good computer, it lags my MMD too.

Also, you can try going into background-> accesories edit-> change number to 0.

I've never got any error like that and don't know how to help you :c . But I can give you some pieces of advice, maybe they will help:
1. Change names of only these folders that contain .x and .fx files
2. If you need to change texture folder's name (the newest water effect has separate folder just for textures), you need to open each .x file and chnge the folder's name in PMD Editor in textures tab (however, I dod not change this folder's name and it works fine)
3. Try different versions of water effect
Other than that, I don't know what may cause this error. Maybe your graphic card can't handle it or something? I don't really know ;A; .

Move it slightly above ground and load a stage, it should be transparent then.
