Description
Mothballed for centuries in orbit round the closest moon of the new homeworld, one of the original three colossal colony ships is given a finalpost-rebuilding inspection by specialist engineers.
Time is of the essence now, as the recent – and inevitable – devastating wars have so weakened the crust of the colonised planet, that a new
exodus in search of yet another new home will very soon be under way.
The hope is of course that a suitable, and unoccupied, world can be found. However, it is in the nature of this race that the presence of any
prior occupants will only prove a temporary inconvenience….
In my ongoing explorations of the intricacies of Cinema4D, I was experimenting
with some of the many options within this amazing prog. I wanted to achieve some sense of huge scale here; I hope you guys like the result?!

I like how the markings on the ships alluded to Chris Foss's work from years ago. It's a style I appreciate a great deal....

You've probably already seen it if you're a Foss fan, but I picked up a pretty epic Chris Foss art book at Powells last year (It and a Manchess book....it was a good trip to Portland

The definitive CF book is 'Hardware' Paul, which I have; a truly beautiful book, with everything in there!
Also CF's 'Diary of a Spaceperson' is a real 'Weirdie-but-Goodie'!
Greg Manchess is another of my fave artists!

As it so happens that was the epic Foss book I bought in Portland....It really is an awesome book. I also picked up Above the Timberline by Greg Manchess. If you don't have it, get it. It is an incredible book. I thought my wife's uncle was going to try and talk me out of it. Funny thing about Manchess, I pretty much grew up seeing the result of his works (whether Capt. Morgan or Nat. Geo), but didn't really discover him until I heard an interview/podcast with him as guest. (I think it was One Fantastic Week) Funny guy.
Chris Foss I actually discovered in high school through Terran Trade Authority books and another called Fantasy Art Techniques.

Excellent job. The detail, colour, and use of light and shade are fantastic. Using the smaller ships in the foreground, really gives it a sense of scale.

Man, the variations in color and shading of the paneling, combined with the fractal-like detailing, really give this an incredibly massive, aged feel. It's perfect. I love it.

Thanks very much for your positive comments Cody! The 'fractal-like detailing' is probably a
holdover from my extensive explorations of Mandelbulb3D! Glad you like it!
