Description
I've had an armor piece brewing in the back of my mind for some time now. I love the great German tanks from WWII but they are very well represented. I decided to go with the Sherman for this piece. These are late war versions. The M4A3E8 with the HVSS suspension and the 76mm gun.I added a couple of Mustangs making a low pass. The combination of air power and armor was unstoppable in 1945. Hence the title, "Forces of Liberty".
I painted the overall piece at 20" x 24" to allowfor various aspect ratios when printing. This version is 16" x 24"

Looks like it might be a British remodel of the Sherman that had a longer 90mm gun and a bigger turret. This version was so effective against German tanks it was shared with the Americans. The end of the long barrel was often painted another lighter color to hide the length so the Germans would the realize the danger they were in till their tanks started blowing up.

there was a scandal, in 2003, when france impose his veto against iraq war, some congressmen of US change the name of the fries from french fries to freedom fries (this intervention was really popular in texas, alabama ...)
you realise how much ridiculous this is
then, a lot people think it's funny to remind this to the americans this stupid story
i'm sorry but we all have stupid story that everyone use to laugh about your country
(france have the defeat from 1940 story ...)

Sorry, I know I'm a little late to the party for this, but this is really fantastic, love the 352nd FG paint schemes on those Mustangs, nice touch, anyone with a good historical eye will love this

the 76mm gun makes it a British variant the Sherman Firefly

As previously stated: Early and mid-war Shermans had a shorter 75mm gun but later in the war they were uprated with a longer barrelled 76mm gun. The original 75mm was adequate to handle early german tanks but was ineffective against the heavier German armor of such later tanks as the Tiger and Panther. The British were the first to shoehorn a bigger gun in the Sherman in an effort to give the Sherman a gun with a higher muzzle velocity and thus more penetrating power against thicker armor. They used their own excellent 76mm gun (17 pounder in British parlance) and the tank was nicknamed "Firefly" in that configuration. The Fireflies proved very effective and eventually the Americans followed suit with their own upgunned version. The version I have depicted is the US version with a 76mm gun (as mentioned in my description).

pity that m4 and t-34 can't(without changing m4 crew for our own) be put in the same battle picture in historical setting. Would have been great to see two such similar "machines of victory"(with a very similar history) fighting side by side even through they were fighting same enemy for same reasons(from ordinary soldier's point of view), but so far from each other(just like crews manning them were).
... My English is terrible
P.S.: good picture.

Thanks. Actually the Soviet army did use M4 Sherman as part of lend-lease program. I don't know if they ever fought side by side with T-34 though.

as I have said "without changing m4 crew for our own". I'm also not sure if they fought alongside, but they were doing their job even here. Pzkw. IV(just as any trophy vehicles) were also frequently used because of their superior characteristics as commanding vehicles(commander tower with good view, better radio station... weak gun and armor until F1 if I remember right)

an "easy 8" the penultimate Sherman. Must build one in 1/72nd scale. The Hasegawa I built is an old mold and scales large.

Thanks. I think I enjoy doing the armor pieces most. The stories from those guys that were there are very facinating. I couldn't imagine what it must have been like going to war in one of these things.

We taped a few of them. I've also seen a Pershing at the museum in New Hampshire.
