Description
I've had an armor piece brewing in the back of my mind for some time now. I love the great German tanks from WWII but they are very well represented. I decided to go with the Sherman for this piece. These are late war versions. The M4A3E8 with the HVSS suspension and the 76mm gun.I added a couple of Mustangs making a low pass. The combination of air power and armor was unstoppable in 1945. Hence the title, "Forces of Liberty".
I painted the overall piece at 20" x 24" to allowfor various aspect ratios when printing. This version is 16" x 24"

Thanks Lyle. I really got inspired on this one. It all came together in about 5 days of marathon work. I have a big piece of me in this one if you can understand that. It really consumed allot of energy from me. I actually physically hurt from this one. LOL

Yes, it's very noticeable in regard to your effort. What timing as well. Dec 26, 1944...the Battle of the Bulge. I know that isn't what's depicted here but it's all about remembrance and you've served that purpose well. Good job!

Very nice work. But didn't shermans had a shorter gunbarrel?
But for the rest you did a damm fine job. Keep up the good work!

Thanks. Early and mid-war Shermans had a shorter 75mm gun but later in the war they were uprated with a longer barrelled 76mm gun. The original 75mm was adequate to handle early german tanks but was ineffective against the heavier German armor of such later tanks as the Tiger and Panther. The British were the first to shoehorn a bigger gun in the Sherman in an effort to give the Sherman a gun with a higher muzzle velocity and thus more penetrating power against thicker armor. They used their own excellent 76mm gun (17 pounder in British parlance) and the tank was nicknamed "Firefly" in that configuration. The Fireflies proved very effective and eventually the Americans followed suit with their own upgunned version. The version I have depicted is the US version with a 76mm gun (as mentioned in my description).

Looks like the end of Battle of the Bulge (historically, not the movie version). Great work.

Oh. Well... Okay. I've just Learned the the Brits used some of our Shermans, took out the Original Gun, and Fitted a HUGE Replacement in Sideways. Those things could Dominate Tiger 1s, but it was kinda late in 1945...

Thanks. Nice of you to notice the T80 tracks. I spent allot of time on them. I like them too, plus they are allot easier to paint than the T66 tracks!
