A friend snapped a pic of this at Botcon. Now I'm jealous. It's a great picture!

Thank you! I don't know if your jealousy extends to wanting a print of it, but if so, it's now available for order online:

I wish that ability got used more - I recall one time when he used it against Devastator, the soundblasters popped out of his hips.

Thank you! Yeah, I live in a big American city, and it was still hard to track him down. I hope Hasbro anticipated his popularity and is planning on rolling out more big assortments of him.

D: It sounds impossible for me to find him from anywhere then. I guess I have to snatch him from Ebay like I did with Red Alert :s

"Ok folks, it's showtime!"
The use of colours is interesting, just the way the music waves effects is used good! I like the classic Jazz sound and light show he performs and it was unique how they didi it and really like the way you did this it is captured very well just like in the cartoon.

Just got the figure as well, I'm really impressed with his quality! The speakers were a very pleasant surprise X)

This is a really fun piece, the little sparks and white sparkle shapes you added really complete it. It looks like you had a good time drawing this, the atmosphere is so bright and cheery

I wish buying TF toys was still such a surprise-laden experience, but I'm too plugged into the latest news. I knew almost everything about the toy months before it came out. It's nice to be able to know exactly what I'm spending (or choosing not to spend) my money on, but I do sometimes miss the old experience of hands-on discovery. Such is life.

And, yeah, it was definitely a fun little piece. This sequence was my source material for the effects; it's always a kick to go back and see how the old artists made the magic happen. When I saw those little sparkles, I knew they had to go in. I can't imagine drawing Jazz without an element of whimsy.

I ususally watch a few reviews of figures on Youtube before I go out and get them, but for Jazz I was just too anxious to get my hands on him and didn't bother There was one time when I didn't do my review search for a figure and ended up regretting it dearly: the Impossible Toys Valkyrie (Arcee) figure. That was painful, and it still is.

Oh wow! I love this drawing even more now! I also like trying to associate little bits of past TF works into my drawings and style; knowing the roots of series and nodding to them makes everything so much richer. Jazz is one of my favorite characters for sure, he can be serious and put his foot down when needed, but is also light hearted and a great source of comedic relief.

I love going frame-by-frame through the better-animated G1 eps. There's a lot of neat stuff you can catch when it's not going by in a split second, like how they did strobing light effects on characters in battle scenes.

And, yeah, Jazz has a nice range, and always with that sense of fun. Hats off to the Scatman.

I do the same thing, I'm always looking for the frames where the artists spent time giving the characters dynamic shading; it makes it look like a scene from a comic book when the characters have edgy black shadows streaking across their forms.

I love the Scatman! I just rewatched The Shining recently and was so surprised to find that he was in it! I was cracking jokes to my friend every time he'd come on screen

Yeah, it's a great toy all the way around, but the speakers are [kisses fingertips] mwah! When Hasbro shows that kind of attention to detail, they're pretty much guaranteed to get my money.

Have you seen the prototype for the upcoming deluxe Warpath? It looks glorious. I love Cybertronian alt. modes; bypasses that whole nasty little scale issue of having a tank that's smaller than a car.

MattDrawsRobots In reply to JZLobo [2011-02-01 01:44:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm sold on it or not. For me, the height of modern TF engineering is to come as close as possible to fulfilling our childhood visions of what our toys ought to have been. Sometimes that means 'toon-accuracy, like with the Classics Seekers, "Battle in Space" Cyclonus, or Masterpiece Rodimus. Sometimes that means the aesthetic of the old toy married to a new structure, like with Masterpiece Grimlock or RtS Jazz. I can also get behind a new vision for a character if it fills a gap, such as giving modern-day Earth modes to characters who never had them before (Universe Hardhead, Generations Kup), or the opposite (the War Within toys). But the further a new toy diverges from those purposes, the more justification I need to buy it.

And this new Warpath, as objectively badass-looking as it is, doesn't hit any of those points for me. Even the last one isn't quite there because I've already got his Legends toy, if I want a non-Earth version. And maybe most importantly, the new prototype just doesn't feel like Warpath to me. It's not "Bang, zowie!" – it's "You're already dead." I'm looking forward to seeing the toy's future reuse; I think the mold would be great for, say, Gutcruncher. But as Warpath? I'll probably pass.

JZLobo In reply to MattDrawsRobots [2011-02-01 04:15:55 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I see what you mean. However right now I am collecting solely G1 homages (Classics, Generations, Universe, RtF - trying to build my 'neo-G1' forces) and pretending that these are their forms between G1 and Beast Wars. So, a non-Earthmode Warpath will fit in nicely for my own personal imagination. And since I could never even FIND the Legends class Warpath, I am even more excited for a second chance to have him. Granted the Legends class was probably better but I like the look of that deluxe toy.

MattDrawsRobots In reply to JZLobo [2011-02-01 18:02:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the fact that I have the Legends toy does influence my decision. I ordered that batch from this place , which honestly strikes me as sketchy. They didn't respond to e-mails, and there was no way to track the package (it arrived from overseas via USPS with my address hand-written and ordinary stamps). But all's well that ends well, and I've got my "Cybertron"- or possibly "future"-mode Warpath needs met. And, like I said, fingers crossed for a transformable Gutcruncher...
