Description
"Obsidian & Tankor: Deicide Ex Machina"From the first Transformers: Universe toyline, this version of Obsidian and Tankor overthrew the Megatron of Beast Machines and ruled Cybertron for some time. Unfortunately, though, this was only told in backstory, so we've never seen those events depicted.
UNTIL NOW!

Thanks! I did actually hide an Easter egg in it... it's a "subliminal" reference to Obsidian's history...

Seems like those lines in the background would be a great place to hide a little something... somewhere around Obsidian...

Thank you! Like so much in Transformerdom, I have a fondness for Beast Machines despite its obvious flaws. In BM's case, I really respect what it was trying to do, which was tell a single deep, epic, even operatic story with powerful themes using tools of G1 lore. Of course its reach exceeded its grasp, and what we ended up with was endless chase scenes, joyless bickering, and overwraught pseudomystical nonsense. But I do feel some compulsion to make more BM art to try to bring out what I saw as the diamonds buried under so much rough.

Good point. The vehicons were good, and BM Megatron actually succeeded where others in his position have failed.

Yeah, BM Megatron was massively badass. I even have a theory as to where he got his sudden hate-on for organics, and it explains a couple of other oddities too...
Also, if I may add to the list of BM goodness: The return of Evil Rhinox, the very true-to-G1 but entirely new juxtaposition of the Key to Vector Sigma vs. the Plasma Energy Chamber, the idea of a plantformer, and the best Cybertronian battle scene of its time in the final episode. And, hell, as odd and unsettling as the reformatted planet was at the very end, there was something really compelling to me about the sight of the crashed Big Floating Head having been transmuted.
Man. Writing all that makes me wish I could stand the dialogue enough to re-watch that show...

Agreed. If only BM could improve it's dialogue, or maybe saved the designs for TFTM2007.

Wow, this is awesome, Obsidian and Tankor are two of my favorites from Beast Machines. Paul Dobson was epic as Obsidian. Nice job!

Thank you! Yeah, Obsidian was great, and basically just because of Dobson's acting. The character certainly never actually DID anything to live up to his "master strategist" reputation. Of course, in my version here, he was wickedly smart in how he took down Megatron... but it remains to be seen if he can keep ol' evil Rhinox under his thumb.

Woooow, this is an awesome picture! I'd always wondered what would have happened if someone else had taken over Cybertron instead of Megs in that series; probably not any better for the inhabitants though. Amazing work with the colors, shading and entire atmosphere of the piece, it looks great!

Thanks! I'm glad it worked out too, since I was trying to evoke the Beast Machines cartoon aesthetic while still using my own line-art-based style.
And yeah, I would've liked to have seen what happened with this Cybertron under the despotic rule of a former Autobot (I actually put an Autobot symbol in the pattern behind his head) and the evil Rhinox.

Question though, who's head is tankor holding.

Thank you! Beast Machines WAS awesome, and pretty underrated in my eyes. It definitely had its weak points, but I respect that one of its core failings was actually aiming too high.
Anyway, in answer to your question, Tankor is crushing Megatron's control helmet. Obsidian is plugged into the wires that used to connect to it.
