Description
An assortment of sketches depicting some of the smaller denizens of San Diablo Zoo, the home of Apeman and Monkeyboy. In descending order of height, they are: Tank, the belligerent warthog; Charles, the gentlemanly penguin; Theodore, the eternally optimistic turtle; and Loki, the mischievous prairie dog. These chaps arenβt major characters, but you may be able to spot them milling about in certain scenes of the comic (most usually ordering drinks and having a nice time at the Watering Hole bar and grill), and they could make more substantial appearances in future stories. We shall, as they say, have to wait and see.

Y'know, tusks might suit the Watchamacallit. I'm not entirely sure where you'd put them, mind.

I love the way Tank's head and neck (what of it there is) is just absorbed into his torso. It seems to emphasize his overall hoggishness.

Glad you like him! I was particularly pleased with how he turned out construction-wise; I'd been drawing a couple of bull characters at the time, one of whom ended up with a similar absorb-o-neck thing going on, and it directly influenced Tank's appearance. It's a handy way of making a character look tough as a matter of course.
I really am going to have to do more drawings of him, aren't I?

Thanks, chap!
Tank seems to be quite popular. I may have to doodle him some more...

And, in the vernacular, he can most definitely bring it. A whole heaping bristly tusky load of it, in fact. Oh yes.
I'm terribly down with the lingo, me.

The variety in species here adds more fun to the characters, my favorite two have to be Tank and Loki, that Prairie dog looks full of mischief!

I'm terribly fond of the little fellow as well, and I was inspired to draw him after a trip to a wildlife centre where I had splendid fun watching a real prairie dog annoying a small horrible noisy child, quite clearly on purpose. He was the only prairie dog visible inside a long, earthy enclosure, and said small horrible noisy person was terribly keen to point and yammer and lean over the walls to try and poke at him. Except he couldn't, because every time he got too close the prairie dog would disappear down a hole, only to emerge seconds later from a burrow at the other end of the enclosure. So the small horrible child would go running off down that end, and the prairie dog waited until he got quite close again and then did the same thing, but travelling in the opposite direction. And he did it again and again and again, until Master Horrible got thoroughly fed up and stomped off in a huff, whereupon the prairie dog sauntered over to the food plate and sat triumphantly chewing on a bit of celery.
Stylish.
