I really wish someone at Sega would decide to make a good Sonic game. Where he just runs around fast and jumps on robots... seems simple enough. Kinda strange that the funnest version of Sonic to play thsi year (in my opinion) is in a game made by Nintendo, heh.

While Sonic Chronicles has some rough spots it is an okay game. Though it's about as simple and basic an RPG as ou can make. It's essentially a hold-your-hand start RPG probably best for kids who have never played an rpg before. Hopefully part 2 will have some depth.

They did nothing to sonic that they didn't to Mario or to Optimus Prime. They just did it twice faster. That's the only impressive thing. But it suits him purrfectly, don't you think that?

They need to make more Sonic Rush games, even if you don't like it you have to admit that it makes more sense than any of the recent games and is the closest you can get to the original.
I think this is why sega makes so much money on collection games ._. it's the only time you can play Sonic without some daft new mechanic.

Truthfully I rather have them trying new things with Sonic then oh say just have him run around every single game...wait, isn't that what he does anyway in pretty much all games, even in bad ones? Oooooooh right their not 2d so they don't matter.
Face it man, living in the past isn't going to save Sonic, epically when even when they do go for nostalgia it will be greeted with negativity. Even if they DO go back to the that, they will likly be meet with negativity somewhere.
People like the franchise for different things. I myself like it a lot for its characters. What if we went back to how classic fans want it? What if it is what classic fans want it? The more you focus on a set minority of fans, you end up alienating others, thus creating bad business for yourself. Hence why they try new things and don't go back to the so called "holy grail" of sonic gaming. What if it went by how people demand to have it go back to Sonic and Eggman only? I would lose interest myself cause I liked other chars then them. Thus the Hedgehog would likely die not cause of bad games but because of its own fan base, a cruel irony.
So in truth, I say give the hate a rest, its often illogical and annoying. If you don't like the new games, then guess what? DON'T PLAY THEM. Then again, that's like the "If you don't like it don't look at it" saying, no one really listens to it. Truthfully I dont understand 2d fans, they seem to live so much in the past they think going back to it will actually make things better when you have so much competition in the game market. To Quote Yatzee "Why would you wanna do anything to please the fans? Fans are whining-complaining dipshits who never appreciate anything new you ever make. The sooner you shut off their whiny voice the better you feel." I feel that this is true with SEGA that considering this factioned fan base, its for the best.
Then again, go ahead continue your work and lone crusade. Once you actually do gain ground in changeing Segas mind, then we talk.
And if you actually read all that am and reading this you maybe asking why do I care?
Simply put, I don't. Its just that after all the Sonic bashing ive seen, I think its time we moved on from it.

Heh, it's a weekly webcomic dude, people expect me to complain. And i only did this one about Sonic.
As for the Sonic games, there's no reason to go back to 2D. Mario's made the jump to 3D, and every core Mario game since has been gold because they take what was great about the 2D games and build on it. Sega needs to go back and look at why those old Sonic games were good and try to build on it. We don't need gimmicks like werewolves and swords, we need a game where you spend 95% of the time running around fast.

Unfortunately, Sonic got put on a low tier list for Brawl. Weak attacks, mostly predictable.
Not to mention that most of the trophies in the game didn't even feature old characters like Fang the Sniper or Metal Sonic. Just newer folks like Jet the Hawk and Blaze the Cat. Same for stickers. For SHAME, Sega. SHAME.

Sonic's old games were fun but If they've kept with the same formula for all these years, Sonic would already be dead for having the same Game format and it became boring. They could have some games with similar format (I.E. Sonic rivals, Sonic Rush) but they still have to try different things. Sonic riders Is fun Even though people say its crap while they say the sequel is good which makes no sense, Sonic Unleashed is fun and still has a bit of the original format, Brawl isnt by sega so that doesnt mean jack squat, havent played sega tennis but that had many different sega characters, not just sonic, Sonic and the black knight Is annoying cause of the new Control Scheme, And sonic chronicles is an Awesome game. Actually, the only Bad game I've played is "Sonic 06" which gets worse the more you play and Black knight btw, Is meh.

SEGA remember it's just run by people who say stuff that will ruin them. Now some of the toying with ideas bore fruits a la sonic chronicles but what is more fun than running at excessive speed face planting into a wall misjudging distance and still running for your life while jumping on robots that don't know wtf? wouldnt kill them to have each character you play as have a different speed. I think big runs too fast. Also, they put no effort into hiding who's in your team. just watch the opening or look at the team power move things when upgrading and you can see a darker but still clear picture of the partner needed

You know what's sad. Even the 2D Sonics aren't too good. I'm talking about the "Advance" and "Rush" games, where the stages are little more than uninspired race tracks that require little skill to complete. Not that they aren't playable, but they miss the point of the original games.
It's not Sonic that has to be fast, just the gameplay. There can be some places where you can tear up the track, and some where you have to slow down and do some platform-hopping. That's the kind of balance the Genesis games had, and what the games today lack.

I love Sonic the Hedgehog and I gotta admit, I was disappointed with his latest games. Its just not him anymore. Loved this one though, it was brilliant.

hey ive played all of those games except tennis, and they were great! i mean, i mean, i liked the old games, but if all sega did was keep all the sonic games of him just running in loops and jumping on robots, we wouldnt be going anywhere! but, im not saying that sega shouldnt make a new 3D game of the old sonic, just that they shouldnt try to add to many new things. thats all, so nobody go all berserk on me.

I don't mind 3D at all, I want sega to make a real sonic game, rather than random games that happen to star Sonic.
Just to recap, how to make a sonic game:
- make him run really fast
- jump on/over/under some things
- collect rings & chaos emeralds

I remember when Sonic was fun when he ran around really really fast and you collected gold rings and stuff, now I guess because with new technology, the studios creating Sonic games are thinking "Why don't we just throw a bunch of random stuff that doesn't belong in Sonic in the first place and make a game out of that?"
Seriously, give me back the Green Hill Zone. I don't want to play another Sonic game in which I have to care for Chao, or run over to an island to get a special item or walk normally around a city filled with npc who say the same thing over and over again. Just give me a chance to run really fast. No cut scenes with bad acting either.

When Sonic Adventure 1+2 were out i loved them so when unleased came out refring to sonics speed i was over the moon (after the high dissapointment of sonic 06) The game is fun and at day time you just gotta love it. But then night came and it was bored out of my mind this monstrosity was never meant to be. But days still awesome i love it. And maybe they add all thes things to sonic because peolple spat on sonic 06 but the gameplay wasnt the bad bit. It was the fact that they added 3 new faggot character one of which is in love with sonic. The crappy camera angles and the endless amount of loading screens. So your right in a way wrong in another.

Not sure if I'd count Superstars Tennis as a sonic game (more a sega fanservice game), but he is a playable character. Sadly the game teases fans with cameos of Ulala and Pudding (get Mizuguchi to make Space Channel 5 Part 3, Sega!) and Beat and Gum from Jet Set Radio.
Anyways, too true. I'll let the black knight game slide if it has at least one reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

On that note: If they were to add a gimmick they should make it like the Sonic Rival games or something. 1 little race section for every hmmm... 4 or 5 normal levels.

The thing with Unleashed is, if you axe the hub worlds and Werehog bits (and that stupid flying level), the game's actually quite enjoyable. Okay, so there are still some pitfalls and minor camera issues, but they're much better than they used to be.

The Sonic Chronicles game on DS was actually pretty damn good. Sure, he didn't run around like in the better games, but it was lightyears ahead of the more recent Sonic games in terms of fun-i-tude.
