Description Autodesk Maya 2008
Adobe Photoshop CS3

This is a model of a Leveler robot. The model initially was really easy since I had such great orthographic views to work off of. After the initial model, I decided to then make it smoothable. The final model is very high poly still made up of parts so he is animatible though I'm not sure animating him would be possible due to how dense his mesh is. He also has no intersecting geometry so every part has a case, every joint has a socket, etc. It was quite the undertaking for a one week assignment but I think it came out pretty good. I'll probably be texturing and rigging the low poly version of him so that he can animate.

I like the details on this guy. His head reminds me of the robots in old Tex Avery cartoons. What kind of personality have you thought about for him? I see him as sort of a loveable "meathead" type. Intimidating, but kind of silly and dumb.

Yeah, I have my thoughts on his personality but really it's not my design so if I did animate him (which I'm not an animator so I don't think I would, I'd probably rig him and hand him off to some animator) I'd take my direction from the designer. Overall I loved the design and yeah, he totally reminds me of old Tom and Jerry movies with this "robot" that has an upside down bucket for a head.

Maxidius,

What a treat to see my concepts come to life! This is a design that I worked on for quite a while with many hours of sketches, iteration and pre-production. Your model looks amazing! Let me know if you need help or ideas for the texture.

My only comment is I believe the arms are too small now that I see it in 3D. He needs to beefier to reap the destruction I had in mind. Are you going to model the arm blades?

I am honored you spent your personal time to work with my concepts. We make a great team…

Rob

Very nice, I'd like to see him crush something. Can't wait to see the finish version. :-D

Thanks, it should be a simple mechanical rig. I'm more worried about how good of a job I can do at texturing.
