Description
First cardinal beetle (Pyrochroa coccinea) of this year. Well, first imago to be precise. I've seen way too many larvae and even one chrysalis before finding this one. Interestingly in the woods near my hometown I've been finding larvae everywhere, but when it comes to adults, they don't show up that much. I tend to find only about one or two a year at most. And since I tend to make expeditions beyond my hometown when they're active, it's no surprise, that I miss them. And there's another species (Schizotus pectinicornis), which I have never seen there (adult one, that is) with exception of one chrysalis, which I took home and incubated.
