Description
“Holding Hands”The flowers may have withered,
their smell no longer sweet,
the presents may have shattered
into pieces at our feet.
The suit that you were wearing
may have shrunken in its girth,
the dress that once did sparkle
may no longer be of worth.
The pictures might be faded,
we might lose our wedding bands,
but none of it would matter
as long as we are holding hands.
How it should be...
This was written in 1994.
Thank you so much to !clear-moments for allowing me to use his image, [link]

I love it!!!
Here's my version on the same thought . . .
I want to walk hand in hand with you
barefoot in the park,
sharing each others experiences.
I want to go to the store
buy a box of chocolates
and eat them all at once,
while in each others arms.
Sometimes I want to be alone,
but never without you in my thoughts.
I want our only fights to be snowball fights.
I want to share with you a piece of cheesecake
with only one fork.
I want to buy you flowers
for no special occasion.
I want to throw stones at the campfire
where each stone will be a bad memory
never to come back again.
I want us To be continued . . . . .
Forever!

I loved this when I first read it in your gallery (ages ago), and I still think it's awesome! I like your version better, actually! It's longer, more detailed... mine's sing-songy.

Aww, thank you! That's good to know... Since I'm kinda stuck in a sing-songy groove (rut?), I'm glad someone appreciates it.

This is truly inspirational; it reminds me of those sweet old couples I occasionally see now and again--the ones who grow in love with each passing year.

very beautiful and I love the message here .. it's what it's all about... one small comment though - in your poem you spelled lose as "loose" which is incorrect

Oops. lol Thanks for the catch... maybe if I ever get my computer fixed I'll update it with the correct spelling.

Did you see my new journal entry at the top? There must be something that makes visual poetry so appealing that it has a chance of being stolen
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
meljoy68 In reply to VisualPoetress [2008-06-28 06:06:57 +0000 UTC]
Yes!! I read that. At least they didn't alter your image, it still had your copyright and name on it. I've seen too many that have been edited to erase any and all signs of previous ownership. I have a feeling that this person saw your piece on PB and liked it so saved to their own gallery....I know I've been guilty of that in the past. But not with theft in mind...
It is upsetting, though...I didn't get it before, but I certainly do now.
