Description
This is another piece that I did for my illustration class, where we had to choose an excerpt from Jack and the Beanstalk and create an illustration for it. The scene that I chose to illustrate is when Jack brings his mother out to see the newly-formed beanstalk. A lot of times when I’m doing character design, I like to give the character a cultural background, so when I was designing the mother’s dress I did a lot of research on the patterns and styles of dresses that women would wear in rural Europe and drew heavily from Germanic influences. Of course I put my own spin on it too. I also tried to make the scene look really windy and open, so I put a lot of thought into the placement of the clouds and the leaves. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way that this piece came out!

This was done in about 15 hours using colored pencils and micron pens on bristol.
