Flank them or take care of different bots. There's not much that Soldier can do in general when facing an airblast. Shotgun would deal shit damage and it's not a good trade for a Buff Banner.

pheh, only too bad that hype wasn't up when MvM in tf2 actually mattered. Sadly it doesn't anymore.

I think the buffers depend on the situation. Most of the time, soldiers are using the buff banner. However, in SOME cases, the batallion's backup is a much better option. I can't count the waves where I had the buff banner, but then switched to the backup and we made it.

My stuff on soldier: B.A.S.E jumper, airstrike and if I remember right I also had whip. After half hour: wave 666 completed!

I once read a guide about someone using the Soldier's secondary laser gun as an option to deal with robots coming in tight spaces or in a line. Not exactly the best call, but could be handy at some point.

won't outdamage Buff Banner for sure. But indeed I saw a video where 6 soldiers beat wave 666 with nothing but bisons.
None of it is int he list of recommendations though.

Conc is pretty bad in general, taht's why it's always important for Soldier to have a Buff banner.

I'm liking this tutorial set, might make one myself for another class, because I'm an unimaginative bastard.
Tip: Go to Render Settings and change the overrides to 64, that could make the AO smoother (it looks very grainy)

Yeah I know it's grainy. It's because I simply didn't pay a lot of attention to that, but will do from now on. I'm hearing more and more complains on that lately.

soo, you can pretty much forget everything i said before, now that you can have even more blast radius, the buff banner stays the best banner in really every situation.
It also affects the gameplay of the beggars bazooka, which you should only really use if you have a medic since the new upgrade only works on a direct hit. it is still far from useless, but you should have a medic in your team if you want to go for it. The stock Rocket Launcher definetly benefits more from it.
Also interesting is, that now you can stand way back while fighting giants because with this upgrade there will be no damage dropoff. it also applies to tanks. you should still be rather close to the front so your team also benefits from your buff.
Other things worth mentioning is that the Babyfaces Blaster is now a legit weapon to use since the speed penalty is only 10% and you only use a bit of your boost for te second jump.
Medic now has an incredibly aweseomeness i would call overpowered, hs shield lets your whole team stand in front of a giant heavy and and not take any damage, plus reviving teammastes is incredibly useful, since they dont only have to buy-back but also dont need to walk back to the front.
the medics upgrades are now mangled together so he can get heal upgrades for less money and he can now get extra canteen durations plus making them cheaper.
Honestly, i would say medic became a bit too strong but this is only my opinion and i also have to see how this will go.

Buff banner is definetly the best secondary the soldier can equip, although you should keep the others in mind. in a wave made of tiny-crit charged robots the battalions backup may be better since you kill them instantly ayway.
But you should really just stick with the minicrits.

It's not like anybody is going to run straight ahead as soon as they appear, mostly it's a matter of taking cover. Plus any good Anti-medic can easily take down the whole horde with a single headshot, sticky or sapper+stab.

applejackforever In reply to Menaria [2013-11-17 09:34:00 +0000 UTC]
i just said its worth considering. In actuality, the only situation i have found for it is wave 666 after the spy wave were every single attack will take a quarter of your health even with full resistance and pushes you into the skybox.
and before that you can be the scout of your team by using the beggars bazooka with the concheror, the neverending spam, health restore and runspeed is enough to keep me at full health at all times.
i just always think about the practical side of items and consider the other banners sometimes.
righteos bison anyone?

Sure its worth considering when you want to have a laugh and waste time on the battlefield? you might aswell just go afk in the base if you want to use the Backup. Like the comic says "something something, attack is the best defence!" and thats true, if you can kill the foe before you can see him, theres no threat to him + the robots are idiots, they will always follow the road they have been given even if you place 6 sentries in their faces.... they could walk around... oh wait! its just AI. so use whats needed insted of toying around with second rate items.Β
Its good you experiment with things, but hell, keep it on the bootcamp and just use the best items when you finally mann up. Got it?

applejackforever In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-11-17 18:43:14 +0000 UTC]
it depends on the situation. for instance, the last part of wave 666, you pretty much kill everything in one hit but a single attack will knock you into the skybox. in that scenario i would rather live longer so i can one-hit bots longer. in that scenario the buff banner did almost nothing for me while the backup lets me actually survive a random wave of spam.
π: 0 β©: 1
DearMrUnicorn In reply to applejackforever [2013-11-18 18:20:58 +0000 UTC]
You can 1hit pretty much anything in any map after wave 3. but to be safe and increase the ammount of rage your heavies gain, you give them a little dmg boost so they can buy the ΓΌber cans insted of the few sec of crit, then they use rage to push back the bomb or reset it in case you use a phlog pyro, or your pusher pyro died in the attempt to save the game. + if your demo is out of sticky ammo at some point and swarps to grenades, its also neat to have the mini crits from Buff banner.
the 2 other options could be useful, but you should face the fact that buff banner is more needed, not only early game, but also later on for the speed and enjoyment.
**Random fact of the day -- : -- Often noobs/random players take Health on kills, this often goes for the heavies, so in that case mini-crits also help to keep them alive.**
PS. ofc I tell them to get the upgrades right, but if its wave 3 and they just upgraded with out listning to more experianced players you might aswell give them 1 shot before you kick them.

applejackforever In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-11-19 15:47:51 +0000 UTC]
I never said to use it extensively. its supposed to be a 1 wave swap.
If, for example, im playing spy and the next wave has a lot of giant scouts and i feel like they will outrun me so i cant place sappers i switch to heavy with natasha.
(this is btw the only way its good, as a 1 wave swap) that way i can slow them down and have lots of upgrades ready for next round.
The same mindset applies to banners where i swap mine for a single wave if i feel it would help me more there.
And i even said it myself, buff banner is best most of the time. I dont use the others for a full mission. except wave 666, and there it always worked out for me

DearMrUnicorn In reply to applejackforever [2013-11-21 21:48:24 +0000 UTC]
1# Natasha... you got to be kidding me!? That wont do dude! it dont slow the robots on MvM, only players in PvP, thats a horrible rookie mistake you made there! It shows you still belong in bootcamp.
Wave 666 is just for the shits and giggels, a skilled sniper with a pyro and engi can take down all the robots pretty much "requires a lot of skills an luck" and then some for the tanks, thats all you need, the solly just helps, also when/if the pyro uses phlog, it speeds the dmg up for "umff-Meter".
No matter what map you're on the super scouts wont be a problem since you will either use pyro airblast, heavy rage, or just pure dmg to kill them before they get out of spawn, so you might aswell just keep the dmg insted of focusing on a whole new class.

DearMrUnicorn In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-11-22 17:31:29 +0000 UTC]
The dmg inflicted to robots slow them down, and often the game make it look like it, its the same as in PvP, if you get uber charged by a medic, you will still get pushed back if 2 heavies or more shoot you at the same time! Its the same effect here.
Ive only met 1 good spy in all of my games, and he were used as a scout! all he did were to collect money and sab a few times. never killed anything!
About wave 666, Like I told you before we started the game, no one took it seriously, I were even affected by alcohol on the attempt + talking with my parents half of the time! and I know the other players, they are just like me.Β
Meta game? what are you on about? you yourself is talking about useing a spy for the purpose of slowing foes to deal some dmg on super scouts, and collecting money etc? pretty much to break the rules? you have no right here to talk about meta gaming!

applejackforever In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-11-21 22:09:36 +0000 UTC]
it does slow, you kinda notice when you have no other slow available in your team, but it doesnt stack with other slow effects
and tell me, what else would you do if you are a spy and the 3rd wave is made of pyros? deadringer in? now the natasha does have a slow i dont need to dump any money into, making it the best option for me in this specific situation
and for how "shit and giggles" wave 666Β was, may i remind you that we did not beat it for about 5 tries before i did exactly what i wrote and it worked out perfectly.
sure you could use phlog pyro, except that in a part with 5-6 tanks and 100 spies you will have to use an uber every time you wanna use your crits, cause youre just gonna get stabbed. it kinda defeats the purpose of using it instead of shooting rockets. and may i remind you as well, that we had an engie who wasnt bad, a pyro and you as a sniper?
Wave 666 isnt just for shit, it follows its own rules and plays different from the other missions in very important factors and also allows different strategies to beat, strategies people like you often ignore because it doesnt fit in the metagame.
because every strategy which does not fit into the metagame gets ignored even if i have perfect reason to do what i do.
