Description
Hi everybody! So here we are with the last map of the Main Line. Now going at the last two stations of the railway, Vicarstown and Barrow n' Furness on the Mainland. I'm so glad to get to this, as that means we got the majority of the Main Line finally complete. Nobody explores that much of the Eastern part of Sodor, unless you're talking about the CGI series, or did your own head canon, but I digress. But anyways, let's finish this sucker and talk about the last part of the Main Line.Main Line:
1) Sodor Suspension Bridge-Definitely had to add this one, as the Suspension Bridge is definitely one of the best HIT locations there is, as it just such a beautiful and really magnificent looking bridge or a whole ravine. Initially, I was gonna put it in part 2 between Maron & Cronk, but with everything I added in like one of the junctions into the Peel Godred Branch, the 2nd loop line, I cancelled that idea, as it would be squeezing in to much, and plus, there wouldn't be a whole gorge between there wouldn't it. So the area I placed it in, there's so much room, that I think it would be perfect for a wide gorge, which would makes sense for the Suspension bridge to go here. So I'm glad I placed it there, and the bridge itself, remains unchanged, nothing added in, but the events Calling All Engines don't exist, don't worry.
2) Duke & Duchess of Boxford's Summer Home-I did say I'd put the Duke & Duchess's Summer Home, and here it is. Nothing about it has changed either, but it's best I do a layout plan for it, as I want the estate itself to look unique. But one thing I have done, there is a bridge over a fenland to make things unique. You could Spencer rests here, but I figured maybe he would also rest at Vicarstown Depot (which we'll get into later), and at Knapford Sheds occasionally, because of course, every time he comes, Spencer is always one of those visiting engines that's a dick, and he always gets punished for being so rude and trying to one up the Sodor engines.
3) Henry's Tunnel-Henry's Tunnel is still in the same spot it's in from the RWS, and I think it make sense that it should be. I already mentioned how there's the Coastal before Elsbridge in part 1 that resembles Henry's Tunnel, so here's the actual set itself, where a young Henry selfishly stalled in a tunnel to prevent his paint from getting ruined, and was a thoughtless dick to his own passengers. The tunnel's design remains unphased, but more towards it's classic series look, that's for sure.
4) Vicarstown Dieselyards-So next is the Vicarstown Dieselyards, which is not like the Steamworks, and nothing like the Dieselworks from the show, it's basically a little maintenance yards for not just the island's diesels, but even visiting diesels to be quickly serviced here. I still stand by what I said about the Steamworks, in that the name is not meant to be taken literally, as all engines can be repaired there, including the diesels. This yard is meant for diesels to be serviced, and obviously this yard is looked after by Den & Dart. A shed for the diesels to rest at is also present. In fact, this is where Diesel, 'Arry, Bert, Den, and Dart rest at, and occasionally the islands other diesels. It's not a full repair yard like the Steamworks, because again, to give both the steam engines & diesels separate complexes, that's just racist. Like what the hell, where HIT & Mattel being that discriminating. If I have children, I'm not even gonna show them the CGI series, no matter what era it is.
5) Vicarstown Station-Oh yes, here's the big one itself, Vicarstown Station, the last terminus on the Northwestern Railway, and its former headquarters before the Fat Director relocated everything to Knapford around 1925. Now let me get this out of the way though, Vicarstown Station will not have it's CGI look. That design for the station looked nice I admit, credit to the animators, but I don't want to use it, because A) I don't think the tracks would be elevated over the town like that, and B) It came from the horrible era of Thomas later on before Mattel butchered the franchise for their own selfish purposes. Seriously Mattel, you bastards better change or franchise back like...now! It's not about money you selfish jerks! Sorry! I can't get that out of the way, those bastards. But yeah, Vicarstown will have the design that the Trainz model had in SI3D, were it looked a little identical to this picture by wyattloughrie. Thanks by the way. So you get the idea;
www.deviantart.com/wyattloughr…
So yeah, I just thought it could look like that, being a classic series nut, I think it would look great looking like that, but not to much like Knapford Station. In fact, doing a layout video for this would make a lot of sense anyway. But one thing for certain, the express definitely has to stop here.
6) Vicarstown Depot & Yards-Vicarstown Depot is a fan location of mine I really look forward to. I mentioned this place back in Stepney Gets Lost, this is shed complex, but not like Tidmouth sheds in the show. In fact, it's more like a hotel for visiting engines, as the design is based more off Tidmouth Sheds from the RWS, starting off as a set of sidings going in, the on the very inside in the center, there's a turntable for the engines to be switched into different sidings, as I think the concept of Tidmouth Sheds in the RWS looks so much better as the sheds for Vicarstown. The complex is the home for Pip & Emma once they become part of the NWR, but it can be for any engine really to rest their wheels and ease their axles. This would also be where the famous visiting engines could stay like Stepney, Wilbert, Flying Scotsman, Spencer, etc. as well as regular visitors like Patrick, and even the rude visiting diesel like D261 & D199, you get the idea. It would make sense if I did a full layout of this. The Shunting Yards at Vicarstown, well, I also plan to use Trainz, but I definitely would need to study it more, as I want the yards to also look as big and complex like the yards at Knapford & Tidmouth. As for who's the station pilot here, well, they may work at the Dieselyards, but I was honestly thinking Den & Dart maybe, as I think they'd be perfect as the pilot engines there. In fact, I should also mention this to, despite being a whole island where steam is the main traction, Vicarstown would be more like diesel territory on the island, so you'll mostly see the island's diesels hanging around here. One thing for certain, this is where you would be seeing Diesel most of the team, as after being saved by TFC, this is where he lives.
7) Old Vicarstown Sheds & Yards-This is of course the original station and half of the old yards, back when Vicarstown was the railways main headquarters. It was still in use, but with Vicarstown being the more like modern part of Sodor, nobody rested in there for decades, especially since Vicarstown is more connected to the Mainland anyway. Mostly happened around like the Beeching era, as around the early 70's, that is when they overhauled the whole shunting yards at Vicarstown considering this is mostly like where diesels would be seen, and in 1971, that's when Vicarstown Depot was built. However, the old sheds where the engines used to rest on the other end of the line was never demolished, as it was a sacred part of Sudrian history. In fact, it's not completely abandoned, as the yards there are just used for storage. The sheds there are abandoned, derelict, overgrown with plants and moss, and no longer in use. Of course, seeing that most of the engines on the Northwestern now reside at Knapford or Tidmouth, that's another reason. Many event took place here, most notably the time Gordon tried to get out of goods work, but forced himself even further off of a siding and into a mucky old ditch. In fact, the ditch Gordon crashed into is still there.
8) Vicarstown Bridge-So after Vicarstown Station, that's when the line becomes more elevated about the town of Vicarstown itself on a viaduct like in S4. Even though I could care less about Rusty to the Rescue, as no narrow gauge railway will ever travel there at all, I do love that set piece of the rails on that viaduct over the town, as I really feel it makes is more complex and unique for the railway. Like they go over the town leaving Sodor all the way to the main land. And then through a forest Runby I imagine, that's when they come to the border where they pass through Vicarstown Bridge. Vicarstown Bridge in the CGI series looks really cool, as I love how it's a large red drawbridge that raise the bridge to let large cargo ships or ocean lines pass through. It's design from the CGI series still remains the same. It was also here Gordon nearly fell to his death in a storm after a ship crashed, and later rescued by Murdoch who was still new at the time. So here we got the border to the mainland.
9) Barrow n' Furness-Now we come to the terminus for the Northwestern Railway's Main Line, on the Mainland at Barrow n' Furness. Obviously based off the actual station of the same name, the station and yards there remains unchanged. Though it wouldn't just be Barrow, sometimes, services from the NWR can even terminate at Manchester, as theUnluckyTug planned, but because, IMO at least, Gordon is still needed on Sodor, he can't to be to far right. But one thing for certain, Barrow is the expresses final stop, and where services are exchanged with British Railways. And it was also here at this station, that Douglas found Oliver & Toad when they were escaping from scrap from British Railways, and he brought them over, and the rest is history.
So that pretty much finishes up the whole Main Line, and wow, I'm so glad to get it over with, as after all, it is the Main Line, so of course there would be a lot to talk about for this big line. I hope you all enjoyed, and please tell me, which section of the Main Line was your favorite, as honestly, the 1st part from Knapford to Elsbridge was. But just to finish it off, these are the main stops for the express in order;
-Knapford
-Tidmouth (Occasionally, but mostly for the return trips)
-Elsbridge
-Wellsworth
-Crovans Gate
-Vicarstown
-Barrow n' Furness
So that pretty much sums it all up for the Main Line. Now for what comes next, well, we still got 3 branchlines, and 4 misc. railways on Sodor. I'll figure which I'm gonna do next, until then, stay tuned.
