Description Perhaps it’s for the best we couldn’t hear Artax in the movie, the scene was definitely traumatizing enough. Also, there’s a giant spider made of poisonous wasps(!) in the book but it never made it into the movie due to financial considerations. I mean, I’m sure it wouldn’t have looked as good as it does in my head, but how awesome does that sound? Answer: Amazingly awesome.

"Is there anything else they did not add in the movie?"
Oh, just... you know, the entire second half of the story. Seriously, the movie only covers about half of the book. The sequel to the movie is loosely based on the second half of the book, but it changes several elements and also sucks.

Ah! I was wondering if the sequel picked up the rest of the book! Shame they did such a poor job of it, apparently. And now I have the Never-ending Stooooory theme song dancing through my head for the rest of the day.

Dude, seriously, how many tots ended up on therapist couches because of this brutal couple of minutes? The end of Bambi's mom and Charlotte's, uh, self, have nothing on this 'lil peek into the abyss.

More luck dragons, and I think they could breathe fire. It's been a while since I've read the book.

There's a couple of things, but that was the cut that hurts the most. One more: Atreyu was actually green in the book and they tried to make him green for the movie but apparently the makeup looked REALLY bad so they just let him be his skin color.

I've heard that it depends on the translation, some apparently say "olive skinned", in which case the film is about right, my own copy says "olive green", maybe it's one of those things where it's up to the interpretation of the translator?

Ah, interesting! I can see how that could get all mixed up in translation, and certainly, I can see why the translator may have just changed it to "olive-skinned" if they didn't keep comparing Atreyu's skin to leaves and peas and the Hulk in the book...

Thanks! Yeah, that is one of the most traumatic scenes from a kid's movie ever...
