Description
Whew, three months of work & we come to this, Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany.Scale is 1:1 of the real castle.
Might change one or two things, just have the interior to do.
Overall I'm very happy with how this turned out, continuous R&D has worked wonders for this build even though it took longer than most.
Historical Info:
Situated on the Alpine foothills surrounded by the pristine forestry of Southern Germany, stands a magnificent castle known in German as Schloss Neuschwanstein, meaning New Sandstone Castle in English, but it is simply called 'Neuschwanstein'. This amazing castle was built to be the residence & retreat of one of history's most enigmatic kings, whose fame is cemented into every facet of the castle.
The castle was the vision of King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845 - 1886) intended to be his private retreat. By nature, Ludwig II was reclusive who disliked formal social occasions focusing his internal energy on many creative projects largely funded by his own private fortune rather than state taxes. He was also a devoted admirer of the operas of composer Richard Wagner (1813 - 1883) who's Die Walkure (The Ride of The Valkyries) is famed the world over. His creative ambition led him towards a palace built on an elevated area making it hard to reach on foot or horse & cart.
Neuschwanstein is a beautiful example of the Romanesque style of architecture. This style is, at it's core, built upon the principles of Roman & Byzantine architecture borrowing many of it's features, including semi-circular arched windows, round towers topped by coned drums & very thick masonry walls. In the case of Neuschwanstein, it uses many of these features, along with influences of the Gothic style, namely on the interior. Construction began in 1869 on the foundations of two castles from the Medieval Ages which were demolished for the new palace. The skeleton of the castle is built from brick but was plastered in limestone to give it a smooth, polished finish. Inside the castle is a maze of nearly 200 rooms, corridors, halls, & vaulted ceilings. The palace rooms contain the most decoration in the castle & can still be admired today for their sense of opulence.
Fate was to play a cruel hand. Before his beloved castle was finished, Ludwig II died mysteriously in a lake in 1886. By then Neuschwanstein was in it's final stages of it's completion. The circumstances surrounding his death are still a mystery to this day. Despite his death however, the castle was completed in 1892. Immediately thereafter, it was opened to the public to marvel at it's external & internal grandeur.
Today, this mighty castle is one of Germany's most popular tourist attractions. In addition, it inspired the castle in the Disney movie The Beauty And The Beast. Neuschwanstein has become one of the worlds's most endearing castles, & is deserving of the accolade of being a wonder of the world.

I tried to download Optifine but Java won't install on my computer for reasons unknown. I'd love to use shaders though, my PC is more than powerful enough to handle it

Yeah looks that way... I rather stick to vanilla to be safe.
I don't play on any servers due to my internet being very slow. It can be slower than dial up on bad days.

hey, i was wondering what blocks you used for this build. i'm building a city hall with the same theme and it'd be really helpful if you let me know asap. thanks and awesome build

Thanks! for this one I used mainly smooth and chiseled quartz, stone bricks & diorite for the walls & netherbrick for the rounded towers. For the rear balcony I've used sandstone to go with the real thing. It's hard to judge with the texture pack I was using but hope this helps!

This is, yet again, an awesome build by MinecraftArchitect90. Can you build Union Station in DC, or Metro Center in DC? I've been to both and both are remarkable.

Thank you I've never done any train stations before, but I have at one stage building the Station in Budapest. I'll give those stations some consideration, along with a rail network to go with it!

Indeed! Metro Center is just gargantuan- but the whole Metro system in DC is just insane. If you could build that whole thing... well, I don't know what I'd do.

This inspired the castle in the Disney animation movie The Beauty & The Beast? By the stars!Β Β
Neuschwanstein looks really elaborate, to think there's a massive dirt ramp like that leading inside the castle, it must have required builders who were at the top of their game.Β Β

MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to VesaiasTheValiant [2015-07-04 18:13:48 +0000 UTC]
Sure did, it's the castle from that movie more or less
It wasn't built that long ago come to think of it, but the builders certainly had to be able to do the job well, it was an elaborate commission set in stone

what are the dimensions of the talest tower, if we think of a floorplan as a square, and what is his height from top to bottom
π: 0 β©: 1
MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to Ed5421 [2015-07-02 18:47:44 +0000 UTC]
I think it was 17 blocks in diameter & about 120 tall. The trick was to map it out slightly built into the fabric of the castle. My experience of building circular structures has improved vastly since I started building.Β

I could never do these up until three years ago. My advice to any aspiring builder is to start small, experiment, & work with geometric shapes & patterns. Then you could build anythingΒ Β

But what is one guy supposed to do with all that space? XD
Btw out of curiosity, do you build a all your things in one minecraft world or do you have a different world for each build?

MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to CoolPenguin222 [2015-07-02 19:07:45 +0000 UTC]
Good question, some people just can't have enough space to their own...
I build all my buildings in the one world. Neuchwanstein is located near Potala Palace & Milan Cathedral. Only in Minecraft!

Wow. Doesn't having so many giant creations in one world make it lag like hell?
π: 0 β©: 1
MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to CoolPenguin222 [2015-07-02 19:15:43 +0000 UTC]
Not really, since my PC has 16 GB RAM & a Nvidia GTX 970 GPU in it. I think 1.8 introduced a fair amount of lag in general

I do indeed. Well all I need is 60 FPS to run smoothly. Maybe I should be more aware of lag in my world, I created a new one & it crashed

It's strange isn't it? Hoping 1.9 will fix the flaws in terrain generation.
