This is great! Thanks for hosting it! I want to get back into some serious digital stuff and I think this will help loads!
Was wondering though, do you know how you can make the clouds be like this but have a sunset behind them? :/ Do not worry about answering but it would really help! Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mirchiz In reply to clashdraig [2010-02-10 15:52:56 +0000 UTC]

oh.. you have to use different tones if you want the sunset..and yeah, may be less darkness..and some light rays (motion blur stuff usually helps with some layer blending)too. and a very strong point of light (sun).. you can do it with the same method..only,forget blue and go for something like orange-yellow on that 'gradient stage' and obviously, the highlights will be sharper close to the sun. please go through reference images of sunsets so that u'll get an idea of what colors will work. i've seen unimaginable colors (like violet/pink ) on the sky blending around sunset. keep an eye out for that too.. any help, u can send me a note..i'll try to help u out with what i know

Fantastic tutorial. I like your way of doing clouds. They look quite realistic

mirchiz In reply to Kjherstin [2010-02-10 13:57:21 +0000 UTC]

thanks . if you spend more time and try to see the volume of each cloud patch in ur head..it will look way too realistic when u finish it . I'd be glad if the method helped u anyways

Kjherstin In reply to mirchiz [2010-02-10 14:23:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes it did. I love clouds, especially painting them to make a backdrop for my 3D work like this one [link] but never had I imagined doing anything like your way.

mirchiz In reply to Kjherstin [2010-02-10 15:45:13 +0000 UTC]

yeah. my way came from trial and error method..that means,i had been trying and making only errors for years this one, i'm pretty confident to share.

This makes so much sense! I have never known how to draw rain realistically, so thank you very much for sharing your advice to us.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mirchiz In reply to cocohints [2010-02-10 10:51:40 +0000 UTC]

realistic? I'm very glad,if my chicken-scratch rain looked realistic ..thanks you so much for the fav.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cocohints In reply to mirchiz [2010-02-10 11:05:45 +0000 UTC]

Yes, rain falls fast to the ground with a little help of gravity so I think it looks realistic. :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mirchiz In reply to cocohints [2010-02-10 11:11:58 +0000 UTC]

ha ha the trick is not in gravity my dear. everyone knows about gravity and make them fall down..nobody cares about the little wind tht makes them fall without order. the extra lines that breaks the parallel feel does the trick, i suppose

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cocohints In reply to mirchiz [2010-02-10 11:23:08 +0000 UTC]

The wind is stronger than each drop's weight, yes. :3

If you draw snow falling from the sky, would you use a similliar technique like when you work with rain?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mirchiz In reply to cocohints [2010-02-10 11:35:11 +0000 UTC]

snow is harder. on rain, u can think of the different weights of the drops and break the symmetry.. snow is much lighter and i don't really follow a pattern.. i never did a proper snow falling image yet, so i don't have tips on that beats me..but it's ok. we don't have snowfalls in this country

cocohints In reply to mirchiz [2010-02-10 11:40:13 +0000 UTC]

Ah, well thanks for your input anyway. We have a lot of both rain and snow in my country, not always sunny days though.

I'll have to try this out one day, thanks again.
