Description
My version of the Sumerian Goddess of the Underworld, Ereshkigal, down in the dark earth and water of the Great Below. She is portrayed in the story of Inanna's Descent into Hell as moaning and writhing and is mourning the loss of her lord Gugalanna.Related content

Not Hell. Irkalla! Hell And Irkalla Are Way Too Deferent Concepts. Irkalla In Babylonian Mythology Is A Underworld Similar To The Surface Layers Of Hades And Beetlejuice's Underworld. Hell Is Similar To Hades Lower Layer Called Tartarus And Hel From The Anglo Saxon Belief Which Also Shows No Similarities To The Christian Hell But Borrows It's Linguistic Roots From The Word Hel But That's Where The Similarities End. Besides Concerning The Anglo Saxon Hel You Only Go There If You Died Naturally Or Died Dishonorably And Cowardly Which Is Polar Opposite From Valhalla But Has No Torture Myths. Don't Put Christian Ideals Were They Don't Belong, Okay?
It's Good Though. Thanks For Sharing...

This was long time ago. Thank you for your interest in my comment entry but I am not an expert. I understand how new religions barrows from the old ones and I wanted people to know were some concepts really come from. I recommend you research for yourself if you want to be sure. That is if you wish to know.
Norse folklore and mythology is were I really shine however Ereshkigal is intriguing mostly because I share her obvious discomfort to light i.e. Photopobia, I found that interesting. How is it going back home in Spain? I was born in a military armory base in Zaragoza.
Thank you for sharing.

hi, thanks, oh yes i dont think of the Sumerian underworld as being at all like the christian Hell - i had just taken that terma as i was reading the penguin book at the time of "Poems of Heaven and Hell from Ancient Mesopotamia" and my interpretation when i did this picture may have since changed more.
I like the word "hell" though as it automatically conjures a bad fiery place in a westerners mind, but then to use it in a differnt way or to suggest that paths of truth and initiation into greater mysteries lie there in or beyond can cause one to think more on this concept that most of us have taken for granted whether through upbringing or unfamiliarity with other texts, wisdom ideas etc.
