I have a question for the eyes, if you embroider them, do you do it after you sew and before you stuff?

How did you go about doing them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MLPPlushies In reply to AwesomePossum50 [2012-12-23 22:58:09 +0000 UTC]

Nope, I embroider the eyes and cutie marks before any sewing is done. I just cut four squares/rectangles of fabric (2 for the eyes, 2 for the cutie marks), making sure that they are large enough to accommodate the pattern for the head and body pieces.

Then I take one of the pieces, hoop it in an embroidery hoop, and then embroider! Same goes for the other 3 pieces. After I'm done embroidering, I draw the pattern for the head around the eyes, and the pattern for the body around the cutie marks, cut them out, and then start sewing.

That's amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this! Do you think you could do one on wings maybe?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MLPPlushies In reply to Ayumuitoe [2012-12-07 00:07:33 +0000 UTC]

How to make wings or how to attach them?

Because if you're wanting to know how to attach them, it's pretty much exactly the same as attaching manes and tails. You just position a wing where you want it to be, and then start ladder stitching around the base of the wing. You have to stitch all the way around the base, and make sure you go behind the wing (to the side of the wing closest to the body) and stitch there too, to make it really secure.

Anyway, thank you so much! I'm glad you found it helpful

This is a great tutorial! I have a quick question, if you don't mind me asking, about the sturdiness of the neck and legs. I also use minky fabric, but after the pony is finished and stuffed, the legs are never strong enough to keep the plushie standing and the neck likes to lean to one side. Would interfacing help with this or is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MLPPlushies In reply to Screamer21 [2012-11-28 17:42:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the tutorial!

As for your question... You certainly could try interfacing - I don't think it would hurt. But I think the better way to go about it would be with how you stuff it. Sometimes my pony's legs are a little floppy, even when the legs are stuffed firmly. If this happens, all I need to do is put some more stuffing in the area where the legs meet the rest of the body (the joints, I guess you could call them.) When these areas are stuffed really well, you'll notice that the legs are a lot stronger, and not as floppy or easy to move around, because the "joints" are firm.

For the neck, you might try adding a dart like this: [link] where the neck meets the back. This helps pull the neck and secure it into the body, and should hopefully help it not lean to the side as much.

But like I said, if you want to try stabilizer too, it wouldn't hurt! I hope I could be of some help

Screamer21 In reply to MLPPlushies [2012-12-01 07:15:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh really? I'm afraid to stuff it too much because it looks bulgy. Maybe I'm just stuffing it too fast because I'm excited to see the result, lol.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely will be trying some of it. I guess a lot of this just takes practice and PATIENCE (which I'm still working on).

By template, do you mean a pattern? If so, yes, I do use one. I used to use *valleyviolet 's pattern that she has for sale, but I now use a pattern that I made myself
