Description I found ONE tutorial on drawing big cats...tigers...and it was in russian. >_<

Granted I haven't studied big cats as long as I have domestic, I think I've drawn lion king enough to guesstimate.
Big cats don't have as much grace or flexibilty unless they are smaller. Cheetahs are the big cat I like the most thus the special note on them. :3

I like this!
I know you say it isn't that good, but it's great for a beginner artist like me. Why? It's simple, and shows an easy way to quickly draw something that may not be the most accurate oicture in the world, but still good enough for people to see what it is without guessing. XD
I'll definitely be using this as a reference.

lol Auto correct.
Thanks for the offer, but really this tutorial is very old and outdated in comparison to my newer work. (Seriously, I posted this in like 2007) Now there are several much better tutorials on DA for this subject.

I don't know why this one remains so popular. The inaccuracies bother me too.

Pass are inaccurate.the back structure does not slant down because it would make them run slower

Kind of obsessed with big cats an work slot with them. I also own three.

This helps me a lot with my former 'cat problem'. The one problem I always seem to have while drawing cats is...THE LEGS!! ARGHH they can prove to be very difficult.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

modesty In reply to TMNTISLOVE [2011-01-05 04:44:34 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. Having a reference on hand is always helpful in such situations. I keep pictures of cats on hand for such purposes. ^^
(Speaking of which, I didn't get the legs quite right in my example. )

Funny that, I have a strange obsession for cats so I have many pictures of lions and Lion King and cats in my room. I love looking at them, I find them sort of helpful. Maybe I should pull them out more often.

Hehe really? I didn't really notice.

modesty In reply to TMNTISLOVE [2011-01-06 05:03:47 +0000 UTC]

You can only have healthy obsessions with cats.
Lion King is really good actually for simplified Lion anatomy. (That's kinda how I learned to draw them. I had the how-to-draw book.)

TMNTISLOVE In reply to modesty [2011-01-07 03:45:53 +0000 UTC]

Cats are amazing creatures! I was watching this show called "My strange addiction" last night, and this one lady was literally addicted to cats! She had 22 living in her house and she was pretty much a real life "crazy cat lady"!

Yeah I find the positioning and anatomy from Lion King like chocolate cake...just so good! haha how-to-draw books are always fun.

urukins [2010-10-05 15:34:38 +0000 UTC]

I hope you don't mind me saying but this isn't very anatomicly correct, the shoulders legs and paws are the problem, especially the back legs.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

modesty In reply to urukins [2010-10-05 17:25:20 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind. Thanks for pointing it out.
This tutorial is almost 5 years old and certainly not the best. I simply don't have the time to update my drawing tutorials anymore.

Dragon-Watcher-Chan [2010-09-13 02:59:50 +0000 UTC]

Really helpful, but I must note, Leopards are only slightly smaller than a lion, less then half a foot, and the lion is the second largest big cat, and Cheetahs are aren't big cats, since big cats are called big cats because they can't purr, only roar, but a cheetah can purr quite a bit, and I think you were thinking about a jaguar, no, they aren't the same things.

I don't mean to be annoying, or insulting, I was just letting you know, for this is really helpful, and you drew it perfectly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

modesty In reply to Dragon-Watcher-Chan [2010-09-13 15:01:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
I wasn't really going for scientific correctness on this, just general guidelines for shapes of the animals since they're all similar...except for the cheetah which was the exception in everything. But fun to draw.

Cheetah's are not scientificlally defined as big cats, but many people call it a big cat in a casual way. Nice info too
