Description
Being unoriginal again. This time I saw this beautiful piece here over on tumblr (charlieslowartsies.tumblr.com/… ) ( on devianArt) All credits for the idea and composition belong to them^^ That said, I really love how this one turned out. Might be a bit too much bloom but it looks cool to me^^ Toothless is also quite imposing, Never managed that as well before.Related content

There is a lot that can be learned from mimicking other artists. This is really quite pretty, love the background especially. As for toothless looking imposing, well you got the body language right, but that face is still just too cute! The eyes are a little more curious than threatening.

Couldn't be more true. I learned so much this summer looking at Cory Loftis's work alone, it was really incredible.
Haha, yes, I think that's part of the brilliance in Toothless's character design. This contrast between "Look at me I am the majestic Night Fury " and "Can I has the fish(◉v◉)"

oh! your digital drawing skill is getting better! I don't know what others are thinking about this piece and I haven't been looking on my watch notifications these past weeks, but I do think that XD
I like the composition ( even tho this is being unoriginal, but I think you have a sense of knowledge of good composition and flow for scenes like these ^^), the flow from Toothless' tail and end on Hiccup, it guide our eyes by the flow using nice poses and expression! Especially the pin point-looking eyes Toothless is giving to Hiccup haha I love how he stares at Hiccup intensely just to make Hiccup feel uncomfortable or what
The anatomy ugh, I always love it when you draw anatomy.. Although at a few glances on Hiccup's extended leg, it looks like it's a bit twisted bcs of the thin lines of his pants, but don't mind me please
also, the wings! the shadows! You put orange tint lighting too, even tho I think it lacks the intensity when it touches the grass while it feels vibrant on Toothless's scaly skin, but maybe bcs of that reason tho it reflects back the light with such intense.. also it still lacks secondary light a bit and reflective color from the backgrounds but this is pretty nice for someone who always draws traditionally then switch to digital! I like this drawing xD
Oh and please don't take this as a bad commentary. I just like to analyze and help other artists if I could, I'm still learning myself too tho ^^".. do forgive me if that came up wrong on you
one last thing, I like how you put details on the background, not just some blur features of trees etc.
keep up the good work!

Thanks so much! This is seriously so helpful, thanks for being analytical C: You made some really good points about the bloom and the lighting. I really didn't think much about lighting if I am honest. Need to be more bold, go in with higher contrasts. The part about Hiccup's leg is also really valid. Something's off about that for sure.
The compliments also mean a lot, especially when coming from someone who actually knows what they are talking about, it's really encouraging. xD

Wow, fett!
Weiter so

Agreed Hang on, I actually don't know of a scene with this particular lighting where Toothless is the active, curious party... Welp

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
The composition is beautiful, but there is a flow to the characters and the rocks that you portrayed that is perfectly dynamic and sweeping.

Thank you QwQ. Yes, the composition is amazing in the original piece, I love how Toothless just rules the frame, so majestic ;_;

Love it so much! It brings my mind back to the first time I had seen this scene at the cinema, with 3d glasses on and a lot of emotions taking off. xD Really an amazing work! HTTYD is the only movie I've seen twice at a cinema, so far... The first time wasn't enough, there still had to be something to appreciate more and more about it. xD

Thank you! I am glad I could make you recall this simply with a picture, ain't that beautiful! C: I actually never saw httyd1 in cinema. One of my biggest regrets.
