Yup, it's called "sub-surface scattering", or "backlit translucency" and it's about how light works when it shines through semi-transparent surfaces, such as stained glass, foliage or, for that matter, human skin. I saw how someone did a set of studies about that, wanted to paint it ever since and to be honest it's actually one of the things that got me into digital art in the first place

What got me into digital art was a "never ending paint supply", and a canvas I could make as big as I wished... oh and that I could instantly have any color I was looking for. =w= Β

Size of canvas was never something that bothered me with traditional methods, but then again, I was always drawing really small :> But the infinite color selection is really cool indeed haha^^
