Description
I originally wanted this to be titled "6 more minutes", after the "5 more minutes" picture in my, urm, on DA it should be in the scraps. This guy doesn't really seem to be asking for sleep tho. Maybe he's about to get up. In which case . . . he needs just a few more minutes. Well, now the name of the picture is set. Can't change that now, can I.____________

That's it with the websites. . . I've been considering more websites though.

Or is it all a ruse, as it tends to be with cats? Mwahaha

Such an eye-catching work! The beautiful detail in the scales and the fur, they were rendered masterfully. It feels as though I could reach over to your dragon and actually feel the form, the texture across his body, each kink and contour... They're even nicely reflective, great job on the scale material! I also really like the contrast in B&W. That's the same derg in your icon, isn't it? I think it was a smart choice not to let the mane get too dark in values for the sake of the overall composition.
As for the composition yeah, I do notice your studies with fabrics really paid off. Abstract and quite "artistic", but with a defined enough form so as to not let yourself get lost trying to figure out the folds and where something starts and ends. To me it looks almost watery in a sense, as though the fabrics flow, and sink under your dragon's weight, though still solid.
The vertical lines at the top are an interesting choice. I notice they do a nice job at keeping the whole "white" theme while adding an end to the pile of fabric, without the need of painting over the zone with grey, or with black, which IMO would give the area too much depth and take away from the abstract feel. In fact, the sole choice of not adding color to him, nor adding any kind of shading around him on the fabric, keeps the entire thing together quite nicely (and reduces painting time, I presume. A nice plus, haha). As for the dragon himself, the pose is nice and complex haha, and rather bendy if I can say so myself. But hey, dragons are rather flexible, with their elongated torsos and necks. I can see how the side-fur making contact with the fabric contracts under its shape, too. All these little things, you've been getting better at this.

Whoa, thanks so much for that feedback! I really did have to make a choice with the mane, but I'm glad you think it worked better like this. Considering the all white background, too, I think a lighter colour wasn't a bad idea. But I struggled with the fur nonetheless. Tricky piece of work, that. How far into the shadow can you go? How to shade and differentiate so it won't look flat, etc. I also very much like to hear that the plasticity of the scales seems to have improved. It's a big step up for me, making a shinier derg.
I also thought about water as I drew these folds. It seemed ocean-like, reminded me of sleep again. Sometimes I myself wouldn't mind having all that space and just sprawling out on a huge mattress with infinite blankets and such. Maybe I'm simply tired though! Haha.
And I am, lastly, really pleased to hear someone saying that about those strange pinstripes at the top. I had the exact same thoughts about all these things you've mentioned, matter of fact. Well, the thought about his bendiness is new, but it's true I suppose. I do tend to elongate them sometimes. Also, I've been noticing a few anatomical issues again. But somehow that didn't disturb me much while painting this, I liked the aesthetic of the super realistic face and scales mixed with that slightly off anatomy, in places. My next piece is more anatomically correct though Urm, at least it seems to be, at the moment.

Aw thanks. I cheated though, last minute curve adjustment. The shame! Haha.
