It’s not the small in-betweeners you expect to become all that significant. I still suffered from overdo-itis as you can see, but it only lasted a couple of days. Still, when I’m in that mode it’s not pleasant and I want to get out asap. It makes me hate painting. Try smarter, not harder, I know . . . But I just don’t how that works.

In this instance I think I combined a few elements from previous paintings, such as vaults, churches, smoke and high-contrast fire. I also included this black frame at the top which visually reminds me of relief prints. But what it exactly means, I haven’t really thought about - beyond the power of the voice to create. And it might be for the better that I’m not obsessing over it.
