Description
2nd stage of the Blue Rose Bodice I'm making. Front and back are now done, grommets are in place and it's been tooled, dyed, painted and finished. I still need to do the shoulder straps.I may actually do some further cutting on the armholes on the back, as they seem a bit restrictive at this shape. It'll make the shoulder straps longer, but that's OK. Next time I'll cut a higher hip in the back, as well.
I've already got the design worked up for the straps, so I'm thinking that'll be next weekend's project.
I think the back on this looks SO sexy!
This is pretty much armor-grade leather. I can tighten it really tight like a corset, or wear it looser to have some movement in it, and it'll still "stand up" in the proper shape. I'll probably make my next one out of thinner leather so it's not quite so stiff and unforgiving. Still, this has some ASTOUNDING back support that a fabric bodice just doesn't give.

Might I recommend tailoring your design to follow your natural curves? A woman does not simply go straight up and down, we have grooves and curves, and even though we want support, we also want to show off our womanliness.....
I think such a thing might be more comfortable for you as well.
Just a thought....

Oh that is dearly beautiful! I'd really love to see some detail shots on the designs. The blue goes rather well in the piece, and I love the shapes used for the front 'V' and the back. It looks a bit off where the middle and back connect near the shoulder blade - or is that intended? Ach, fantastic job!

I completely re-cut the armpits on this after this photo was taken, so it looks quite a bit different now.

I love this bodice!!!! The blue is so vibrant and such a beautiful design!
-I don't think the back is too high at all. My own bodice's back goes up higher than yours does, but it's fabric...not leather. I think it's beautiful!
I do agree that the under-arm bit may be too high, it actually looks kind of uncomfortable. I can't wait to see pics. of the finished bodice! Or even you wearing it at a Faire!

Yeah, I'm definitely trimming that underarm spot a bit.

What is a good leather for bodices, anyways? I mean, thickness...

I have NO idea. I'm experimenting myself. I used something like 6 oz for this one, because it's what I have around and I'd rather it too stiff than not stiff enough. I'll need to try one in 3-4 oz because I think that would work better as a garment quality. I also want to experiment with 3-4 oz tooled sections laced onto chrome-tanned body pieces, which I think would be the ultimate in comfort, but I'd need to work out the structure juuuuuust right to get it to work.

I hope you post photos of these other leather experiments, I'd love to see the results
-At some point I'd like to make a plain, brown leather bodice...something thick enough to support, but also thin enough to allow for movement and comfort.
I've got a leather quiver made out of the kind of leather I'm thinking of...only thing I don't like about it is that it scratches easily...which isn't good.
Thanks!
-Also, ready for that tankard total whenever you are

grrr am really annoid at Deviant art, it won't show the FULL view and I wanted to look at the detailing on the back it looked so pretty. It looks very awesome, am not a big clothing person a friend who looked sort of said the back looks to high and she makes clothing but to me that means nothing to me the back being to high would have to be up by your ears hehehehe i think it looks spiffy!

to see the full view until DA gets itself together again. (this full view thing keeps happening ,both with my uploads and with viewing others' works, and it's starting to get on my nerves).
I have no idea what she's talking about with the back. All my favorite bodices (that I've purchased, not made) have high backs. Better support for a full day on ones' feet, and more comfy with my shape than the lower ones. Now, it's not standard for modern dresses, where the top of the bodice is cut lower than the front, but this is actually a part of something that will be very close to battle armor, so a covered back is a good thing.

I believe Eddie izzard would want good back support and front support inbattle, they would protect his boobs as he hunts, but he won't gather, no very good at it sorry silly mood just woke up. Well she doesn't wear bodices for armour so I guess she just likes to show off her back, whta harelt
