Awesome detail and atmosphere! And I didn't notice the monster in the background til I read the description.
Cecaelia [link] can be so distracting and alluring sometimes, ya know...?

I saw this on Pickman's model gallery and had to come here and fav it.
It's an awesone drawing. The mermaid is beautiful and the background is absolutely stunning!
I did see the "friendly being" behind her...but I guess it's way too late to escape anyway

Never trust an octopus mermaid
Great artwork
Like the colors and that they create a mood as if you are really underwater.

Okay, you can offically call me "octobait," because I never saw the critter in the background, and so, I'm toast (albeit a little soggy).
Excellent rendering, Michelle! I love the way that you have positioned the central figure to draw the viewers attention to her, and it is only as the eyes wander over into the background do we see the lurker in the deep.
You level of detail and attention to lighting is always refreshing. Keep up the fine work!

It absolutely astounds me that so many people are missing the ...thing... in the background. I mean...it's huge...and ...hungry.

She is really lovely, i like the originality of the octopus body rather than the typical fishy tail. Painter is a fun program

wow. really creepy. and i think the monochrome really helps. makes it feel more 'natural' and not at all heavily accented B movie creepy.

... so beautiful, I didn't even see the creature behind her, the colours play tricks with your eyes, along with a lil deep sea mermaid magic I suppose awesome work once again!

It's so funny to me how many people miss the ...thing... Since I painted it, and kept doing the push-pull thing with how much he stood out, he's just so obvious to me. I guess I must have done a decent job of burying him though, since that's the effect I originally wanted.

it really works, mostly because she sort of projects herself out so your eyes look to her and the abckground kind of blends inton one dark shadow to illuminate her. Add to this her tentacles draw you into her rather than take you out due to the composition it works very well

I've stumbled across this picture throughout DA but for some odd reason never actually clicked on it, no matter how intriguing I found it with it's color scheme and that awesome subject. o.O All the more I'm glad to have finally stumbled across the artist who created this amazing work. It's very inspiring.

She *is* distracting me from the seamonster...! I suppose it's too late to scream and run now, right?

Lovely, lovely texturing all around. I'm getting 'ruined city' vibes from whatever the Starspawn is lurking in.

The limited color palette really worked to your advantage in this one - the piece looks great, particularly for an experimental one.
I'm digging the textures and lighting especially. And the tentacles. One can [almost] never go wrong with tentacles.

Nope. You can pretty much never go wrong with tentacles. They're tentacular and tenticalishious!

EEEEE! This was done with the "sample" Painter that I got with my scanner mostly with the airbrush tool. I just loaded up the full version. Ooooooooooohhhhh! MUUUUUCH better! Expect lots more Painter Stuff! I may never use the airbrush tool again!
