Description Octopus mermaid becons the viewer - distracing them from the enourmous beast lurking behind her.

My first Painter painting, so I decided to use a limited palette to learn with.

The title is Spanish for "Dark Sea"

Oh jeez! I looked at this, and thought "Oh cool, octopus mermaid." Then I read the description, "Octopus mermaid becons the viewer - distracing them from the enourmous beast lurking behind her," and did a double take. Something that takes up that much of the picture should NOT be that stealthy!

Very sneaky, this mermaid. Excellent job!

Gee this is nice, love how you did the hair.
I've had a bit of a play with digital too, it sure is mind boogling with the layers and things you can do, but my computer is in a different room to my painting stuff - it doesn't smell right-no paint, pencils or turps. It sounds funny but the room has to smell right to do any work. Now I really sound like a nutty old bat!

wow Michelle what a powerful piece made all the more by the monochromatic color movement depth and details

Thanks. It was both easier and harder to work with in digital medium. MUCH easier to get the sense of depth, which is what I really wanted in this one.

I have never really worked with digital but have great respect for those that do like Renee Biertempfel and Nene Thomas not so much for those using Poser LOL you did a wonderful job
I think Nene and Renee have both done tuts on them that involve so many layers that they make me too dizzy to try and comprehend LOL otherwise I might have tried well if I had the right programs and a wacom tablet LOL

oh, yeah. Tons of layers. I keep forgetting what all is on each one and have to toggle them off and on to figure out what is where! Still, it's nive to be able to do a painting without having to wash up all the paint and brushes when you stop for the night.
