Description That little piece of "bite sized art" got a little out of hand. I was not able to keep this one simple, but I like the way it turned out.
Digital in Manga Studio5.

Lovely - great lighting!
How do you like Manga Studio?  I've been thinking of giving it a try.

Thank you so much! I've never done any kind of uplighting before, so this was a heck of a learning experience.

I'm loving Manga Studio5. As a matter of fact, I just got a Cintiq Companion and haven't bothered to install Photoshop on it yet, since I've been using MS5 so much. It's somewhere between Photoshop and Painter, but closer to Photoshop in interface (Has all the layer mode options). Their inking pen tools are EXCEPTIONAL! Really smooth lines, and have a proper ink feel when you use them. I tend to use those and the pencil tools most often.

I think SmithMicro still has a fully functional demo download. It works for I think maybe a month or so, you just can't save. But I was sold on it the first time I played with it. I keep talking it up to anyone who will listen.  One issue with it, though - it only works in RGB, so I have to convert to CMYK in photoshop and color adjust, but..eh. I don't have a problem with that.

The Companion didn't used to play nice with Photoshop, there was a lot of brush jaggedness but they seem to have fixed it with the latest update and it works great now. I like MS5 too but for the Magic box course I went with PS simply because I can follow along better with what Chris Oatley is doing.

Yeah. I only installed Photoshop onto my Companion when I started the Magic Box. I need to set up my radial menus because the interface feels so clunky compared to MS5 when it comes to gradients and such (when I use PS, I use keyboard shortcuts, but I have my side-buttons set for my MS5 workflow which isn't QUITE the same).  I'm sure some preference tweaking will help me. I just need to sit down and set it up.

Though I'm seriously tempted to do a second assignment#1 in MS5 just to see how they compare. Maybe I'll bump one of my color comp ideas over there for giggles. Hmmm...I'm liking this idea.

Sounds like a plan. I'll be interested to see how you get on.

Well, I did work a bit with MangaStudio 5 on one of my color comps and it was just really uncomfortable to work that way. It's a lot of extra effort to get the gradient variations to come out right. I didn't get far with it, and just ditched what I had. Photoshop just felt better for this technique to me. Which saddens me a little, but there ya have it.
