The Queen of Faerie guards the portal to her world.
This is an illustration for a poem, "Fairie Realms", done for the upcoming illustrated book of poetry by Alex Ness. The book will be called "A Life of Ravens" and will be illustrated by a large number of artists. It's a fantastic project that I'm glad to be a part of. I'll post more details as I learn them.
I'd like to say that this pose was inspired by the wonderful , but not by any specific photo.

I'm going to be excited! Whenever I see this picture in the book, I'll probably be eeking "I've seen that before on deviantart!
" Anyways, this picture is gorgeous and I can't wait to see it in the book!

The compositional arrangement is great - I love those standing stones and all of the detail in the fairy gal. The only thing that bothers me is that black sky. It seems to overpower the rest of the image, and it, rather than the figure, is the first thing that I notice.
...Unless that was intentional, of course.

Actually, it kind of is intensional. The poem is about how you find the gates to the world of Fairie in the most desolate and empty of places. So that's why the black and the snow is there. To show someplace empty of anything recognizable or human.

I'd wondered if that might be the case. The deep black makes sense now from a sybolic perspective.

This definately deserves to be published. Such attention to detail, and so smooth looking. I love the Newgrange spirals on the stones too. And the little fairies make me giggle. Nice work!

Thanks. The little ones make me laugh too! The Queen is so regal, but they're so...saucy!!

This is SO beautiful! I love the Celtic swirls on the standing stones behind her as well as the miniscule Fae figures in flight around her! The attention to detail that you show in your gathered folds of her gown, the veining of her wings, and the curls in her hair are fantastic! You did a great job and I'm thrilled for you that this image will be published in a book alongside other talented artists -congrats for you!

Well, the one sitting in my lap trying to eat my wacom stylus, and the one on the back of my chair seem to think so.
