Description
I got a little tired of drawing so many fair-skinned and haired characters, and so decided to do something a little different. This is a 11x20" ink, watercolor and colored pencil painting of an Indian (not American) princess and her Naga-dragon. I'm trying to find a good title for this.(I've just uploaded a brighter version of the image. I think the original I had uploaded was too dark.)
Original now resides in a private collection.

Me too!! Nag and Nagina. I used to love that movie when I was little.
Mythologically speaking, a Naga is supposed to have a snake's body, a human's head and I think it has 2 legs. But I've seen a lot of variations on them. And India doesn't seem to have any actual dragons, not like China and Japan have, so I converted the closest thing I could find into one.

The designs on the creature and the creature design itself are very well done.

Just like all your pieces, it's just incredible. I love the patterns on the dragon, I'm not sure if I've ever seen that before, it's so mystical. I love your use of colours, and the scenery is gorgeous. Wonderful work

The patters on the dragon were inspired by a festival that they have in India (and I think they do it in Thailand as well). It's an elephant festival, and they dress up the elephants in rich fabrics and paint elaborate designs all over them. It's very beautiful. I can't remember where I first saw a picture of that, but it really stays with you.
I'm pretty proud of the background in this one, it came out really well. I'm not happy with the scan, though, and I will probably try to get a better one up soon.

Wow, I'll have to look up some pictures of the festival, it sounds very beautiful, and certainly translated very well to the dragon in your piece
I saw the reposting, very nice. It's so difficult to get a scan that does justice to the original, isn't it? Your pieces always do look very well presented though

I did this painting because I really, desperately wanted to paint a bright red sari. I'd been looking at a friend's sari's the week before and they were so inspiring. The way the fabric drapes as it's wrapped around the body is just so lovely.

I love saris! They're so beautiful, I've been begging my mom to get me one for Christmas. You're really lucky to be able to see one up close, I envy you. You really captured the beauty nicely, once again good job!
