Description
I liked the stillness of this shot. I was asked to do a few photos at my cousin's service. I felt weird but managed to be unobtrusive.Related content

I'm sorry for your loss as well.
You did a lovely job of this photo for the mother and the absent party.
Without the individual it wouldn't be the photo it is. If you could see the woman's face it would be more about them rather than your cousin and people paying their respects. And with the emphasis on the woman standing before the flowers and the photos seen alongside, it gives a sense of being more about your cousin's life than her death.
Really beautiful.

Yes. It felt awkward to be taking photos, but I was asked to for a particular reason by her mother. There was someone who could not be present and she wanted a few photos. I felt it captured the right feeling.
Thanks for the poetic comment.

Ah, its touch and go. Good overall I suppose. Just relaxing before some more classes, trying to get my band off the ground and gigging soon, and getting over an awful cold. How about yourself?

I'm trying (with great difficulty) to put together a portfolio. A friend showed his gallery a couple of my images and they want to see more. It's hard to narrow it down since I don't know what he showed them.
I'm hating being in Michigan and not in California... I miss the feeling of life there. People are very different, far less conservative and much more alive. (perhaps that goes together). Dan (husband) has a gig in Idaho at some festival so we will be going there andthen on to Cali for a fun 4 weeks or so and I'm happy about both the road trip and where we are going. photo time!

Wow. Yeah, that's always tough - but that sounds awesome. I just re-did mine, and hopefully I'll build a website soon too.
California would seem like the preferred spot for me as well - though I'm not a fan of L.A. much. I'm going to San Francisco in August to see Rage Against The Machine at a Hip-Hop show with some friends, and hopefully we'll live it up Jack Keroac / Beatnik style. I hear Oregon is quite nice too.
Is your husband with a group then? I remember he plays trumpet, but I didn't know at what level or whether he played in a band or solo. Yeah, should be a great photo op! Have fun for sure.
I think working as a Staff Photographer for UVic's student newspaper last school year killed my passion for photography... Its been hard to revitalize, but I'm getting there again. Funny, at the time when I'm best with my technique / talent, I'm the least interested. Gah.

Yes, you'd like California... various parts. I have a love hate relationship with LA. If there were fewer cars, it would be a great city...if only if only. SF is one of my favorite places in the world. I lived and worked there for about 4 years. I know you'll enjoy yourselves... yes, go to the 'old haunts' at North Beach... and be sure, if you have time to check out Golden gate park too..it's huge and great for hanging out.
My husband is a pro. He plays all the time both in his own group and with others. Actually he has several groups. One is fairly traditional with tough jazz charts for a quintet. Another is a loosely formed group where he uses an echoplex type of thing ( and a real one from the 70s!) and is very late Miles in feel with a bit of hip hop beat and bass too. Additionally he gets calls for musical acts that come through the state...if they don't carry their own horn section . . . and he also plays with a 'wedding band'... that does all the usual wedding stuff... rock, soul, etc etc etc. His web site is danjacobsmusic.com
Now you know more than you need to about that.
Oh, and regarding the 'loss of appetite' for photography... it will come back. My mother never ate ice cream after working for a year at a shoppe that served the stuff. and my oldest son, Duke, has always refused to "work" at writing for that exact reason. He loves to write and doesn't want to lose that. Just take that camera with you ...or a small, who cares one, and start taking photos of whatever. Lets see some parts of your world I've not seen yet.

who knows... after all, the departed still live in our thoughts, and this can change our way to behave and react, just as if they were actually present. we really know absolutely nothing of what there is beyond life, if there is something. we can hope, or believe, or wish, or all these together, but in the end all we have is our ability to give a meaning to our feelings, and this is, imho, a suggestive way to think that we will last in our beloved ones.
