On the lookout for a good tutorial for rocks and stone this was the most interesting, inspiring and most of all fitting my idea of how I want the look. Thanks you for sharing!

Haha, well it's all about trying, trying until you find your own way. But of course, a tutorial can be very helpful on the way I hope it goes well for you ^^

Since I replied I failed another 8 or 9 times. But the day will come when I got the trick! xD (btw. its step 2 I'm talking about all the time LOL^^) Maybe it's just my eye that isn't satisfied with the curves! I'll try even harder. When I ever get a result I'll link back to you.

I would suggest that, even if you dont like how it looks, finish it anyway. And then start over and finish that one. Do like that until you find what you're "doing wrong" and start over again. You wont learn as much if you quit

I've thought for quite a few minutes about your advice. I'm pretty sure I have too high standard and am by far too less patient with results or even myself. I'm sure this is the right advice for me and I'm going to make it so (as picard uses to say ). I'm overwhelmed by the kind support of the deviants anyway so let me say thank you to you, too and again.
But enough for now, tired, gotta go to sleep. Right when I wake up I'm gonna start over with this! Day saved!
Good night!

Thanks, and thanks. But that was a horrible night, I had nightmares of ugly rocks and unrecognizable stone painted by me. Well now that I'm awake I won't waste any time and start over now! Yes, I am confident you quite helped me for a good start. Let's see if I'm surprised by the finished results - maybe I only have to get beyond step 2 to be satisfied. XD

I use a normal brush with "other dynamics/transfer" on (depending on which photoshop you have). No special brush

My problem is I am not that random. I do not know how to act the shadow effects.

Nakubi In reply to Montiessor [2013-05-22 20:13:30 +0000 UTC]
It is not random. what you have to do is to go out and study how light falls on an object. when you know the shapes of the object you can "guess" how the shadows will take form. when you discover that by yourself, you will always know how to do it shadows and lights. It is worth it. you learn better by discovering by yourself, although people can show you how they do it and you can copy that. tough it is better to understand why you are doing that. I hope it helps ^^'
