What happens when you neglect something in life because it's boring or irrelevant to your personal interest?What happens with suddenly that something becomes relevant? -When it determines whether or not you get to attend an event you've waited your whole life for?
What happens when you devote your full attention and time to that something with so much on the line-

Wow. This really, literally, brought me to tears. You really got that sadness spot on. Especially with the extra bits you added, such as Derpy, a mare that is, well, derpy, getting an A-plus, as well as the Wonderbolts class trip poster. Perhaps she couldn't go because of her bad grade? But anyway, amazing job. Truly wonderful.

I find this relatable from the last year i have put all my time and effort into my college work to get high grades for Uni. I ended up with some really crappy grades and my first choice uni rejecting me

Inspiration... Taming inspiration and tapping into it at will is like trying to nail jello to a tree. Most of the time inspiration just hits me out of blue, like when I'm taking a walk or letting my mind wander. Sometimes real world events and experiences culminate in my imagination to produce 'what-if' scenarios. I think another part of the equation is just being flexible. My original idea for this picture was to quickly create a filler piece until my next comic was ready to upload. It started out with the comical idea of Rainbow Dash siting on a stool with a dunce cap on her head while Derpy trots off with an A+ score on a test. Mulling it over in my head for a day or two, I stared thinking about the characters and their reactions more. Snip-its of ideas and inspiration from outside sources started falling into place until the final idea was realized in the picture you see here.
Sorry, that was quite a bit more than I intended to write.

Derpy, "Mama, no, I didn't!"
Derpy's Mother, "Don't lie to me! There's no way a filly as stupid as you could ever get a grade like this!"
Derpy, "I'm not lying! I thought of the questions like rhymes like daddy said, and I was sure to picture what I wrote down before I wrote it down."
Derpy's Mother: "You expect me to believe that!? I bet this isn't even your paper! You couldn't even cheat will you tried!"
Derpy, "But it is mine mama! It's my hoof writing!"
In a way, it might have been kinder if Derpy's mother got the D- instead of Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash would have been happy, and Derpy's mother would have called her worthless once her father was out of earshot anyway.

Nothing in the main series. She was simply shocked that her daughter was still alive after giving her that heavy goodluck charm and giving her her first flying lesson over a river and giving her a good shove off the bridge to help her get air born.

So yeah, it took Derpy a few hundred years to realize her mother tried to 'accident' her. Mostly cause she couldn't comprehend the idea of her doing that.

I can answer Derpy's mother's question concerning Derpy's grades, and it starts with a baseball bat to Derpy's mother's face and ends with sulfuric acid.
I as a rule hate abusive parents. Hate, hate, hate. Though if Derpy's mother ever shows up in canon she's probably going to be portrayed as a loving parent. It's a kid's show after all
