This has been the culmination of a project months in the making! (Though it's also a project that should've been finished a months ago.
)As is mentioned in the title this is part 1 of a 2 part story.
-I hesitate to mention this but, for those offering critique I must make a clarification; This has been a project months in the making. I'm not asking you to hold back or pull punches, rather just be aware that my art has improved since I originally sketched this thing out. Please take a look at one or two of my other recent pictures before you tailor your advice based on this picture alone.

I prefer Apple Bloom's name being two words (I think it flows better), but that's the only nitpick I have. This is a really good comic. ^_^

I am VERY impressed with your video. I've read this comic probably a hundred times while I was working on it, but your performance still made me misty-eyed even though I knew the material by heart. I'm going to post a journal entry about it very soon to encourage more people to watch your video. It also reignited my passion for this particular project, and if I don't hit any major snags, I should have the next part ready in the next two weeks.

To put it bluntly, we just never figured it out. I just liked the feeling of them living with their Granny, but keeping the family dynamic tight and small. To be honest, I would like to simply say that they passed away somehow, but it's just it would have likely been deemed too sad for a kids' show and I don't think it would have ever been approved. There was brief discussion of them being traveling salesponies or explorers, but since we never needed the information in an episode, nothing was ever made official. So it will have to remain a mystery until someone decides to define it.
My personal thing is to keep that theory set

I don't know if you've been in this position yourself, but you got it exactly right.
I've been where Apple Bloom is in this piece. Literally. My loss was a sibling I never had a chance to know. It's amazing the stupid little things that can bring the grief back, even decades later. Her grief over the lost possibilities of a relationship, her embarrassment at her own grief... it's all just spot on.
I'm crying again, now.
